the bassist would have $15,000 (in today's Dollars) worth of amplification on stage. Today, I think only Tom Bowlus could pull that off!
Heck no, not even I gig with that kinda $ on stage (not counting basses, at least
). Wait a minute, let me do the math... um... yeah, not even I gig with that kinda $ in my rig (I think...).

Proof you can get great sound on the cheap:
Eden Nemesis NA650 housed with a Fender RT1000 tuner & an ETA line conditioner pumping 2ohms (and quite nicely at that) into an aging, but stout nonetheless, SWR Goliath Jr. II and an Avatar B212 Neo. On it's left is my backup and-then-some head, a GK 800RB which will eventually get a cosmetic restoration (it's been through a few tours of duty in it's lifetime) sitting atop an Avatar 410 Delta, which'll stay at the rehearsal space. Sitting on top of the GK head is of course, my "real" rig, a Radial JDI and a Stewart UDP-1a preamp. Plus a couple of lovely canare cables hanging off the rack. The main rig gives me stellar stage monitoring in any club situation. I love it. There may also be an SWR Bigfoot 212 in the near future. How cheap? I'll give a breakdown in the "Show you cheap rigs of Doom" thread if anyone cares

didn't allen woody use an ampeg v9 on those recordings, not an svt?
it's almost the same power section-wise, but the tone controls are voiced differently... there is an overdrive channel, as well as reverb....
Don't know actually. I never paid any attention to Gov't Mule until after Woody's death when Steve (Dude) Barr mentioned it either on The Bottom Line or The Dude Pit.
Shortly afterwards, I bought "Dose" to give 'em a listen and then went scrambling for "Gov't Mule" and "Life Before Insanity".

Sweet. The latest batch of rigs to get posted in this thread are much more tending toward "doom" than some that have cheesed their way on in the past.

Being old enough to have gazed lovingly at brand new ones at the music shop and counting the knobs... Volume 1, Volume 2, Bass, Middle, Treble and since there's an extra, Reverb... I'd say it's an early to mid '70s Ampeg V4 head.
That is a great photo...but we can still see the Tele trying to hide behind the column
Those Dr. Bass cabs look really slick! I bet they sound great, too.
The Dr. Bass/Ashdown rig has turned out to be a nice little inexpensive experiment so far. Tonight it'll get its first gig, so we'll see if the rubber does indeed meet the road.
BillyB was dead on--it's an early 70s V4. It sounds AMAZING with bass. You'd never be able to tell it's a guitar head if you didn't know the difference. My favorite small tavern blues & rock rig is the V4 through the Henry 8x8. But these days I hate to take it out of the house because of its minty condition, so I built the Dr. Bass/Ashdown rig for small gigs.
