Our grey Chase used to do this all of the time. Must be a greyhound thing?
I'd say the preponderance of hips are more comfortable draped over the side allowing the legs to tuck back under for warmth.

IG's always look nervous to me.
Many years ago I had a big rescue pit. He was a great dog, but tended to be aggressive toward dogs larger than him, and not to smaller dogs. That was a big reason I took him to obedience classes - to socialize him more.
There were two IG's in the class. And they shivered nervously the whole time. And Joshu ADORED them. He would like down and roll over to play with them. They were kind of taken aback at first but eventually warmed to him.
One of our grand-puppies, Mya. Our daughter made her a "Nemo" costume and "shark bait" bandana so she could assist at candy hand out.
Well, the other part of this is that Chase had his front end off of the pad as many times as his back. Lol! Go figure.
Trinity is pretty outgoing and wants to meet most dogs she sees. There are some overly aggressive dogs she is leery of, but for the most part psyched to meet new dogs and people.
Pixel is not as outgoing but has been slowly coming out of her shell. She had been passed between 7 different people/owners before turning 3, so she does have anxiety. We are hoping as she logs in more years with us, she'll realize that she's at her forever home.
This is just sensible. Sometimes you gotta hang it over the edge for more efficient off-gassing. Good dog!
