Bucky passed away on Saturday, he was 14 years old. To say that I am devastated would be the under statement of the year. I have been working from home for the last decade, with him by my side. i feel like I have lost the best friend I have ever had... natural causes took him. He did not suffer and I have absolutely no regrets regarding our relationship, he was the best.

I am sorry for the pain you are feeling, after a long time with your friend by your side 24/7 it sure does hurt an awful lot.
I am glad you feel good about the life you provided Bucky, it's proof that you were a good friend to him.
One thing that made me feel a little better when Loki died a few months ago was...
We took his three beds and his blankets to the local shelter, and also a dozen books about the care and training of Pitbull Dogs.
Then I gave about forty (one pound containers) pounds of raw meat food we make (that Loki ate for about the last five years) to my neighbor who has two German Shepherds, one of which is having reactions to regular dog food.
Hope that you start to feel better soon.

So sorry to hear about Bucky. I think you have summed up the feeling of loosing a close pet and family member quite well. It's like loosing an appendage. Sounds like you were a great dog dad to him and that he enjoyed you just as much as you enjoyed having him. I hope the great memories of him help ease the pain.

My oldest dog Boston turns 13 this year and despite the fact he never shown any particular sign of old age problems, I know he's old and probably things will go south pretty quickly when his time arrives.
I'm not sad or depressed because of this, looking at him always brings me joy, but I admit sometimes I think about how much time I will be able to spend with him.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the well wishes and support, i really appreciate it!
No dog will ever take Bucky's place in my heart, but we have begun the process of securing another rescue, and will likely have a dog, back in our house in short time. It sure will be different, but I am looking forward to the challenge and making a new friend and family member welcome.

@Fishheadjoe I feel for your loss, it hurts so much to lose a good friend. Glad to hear that you are feeling almost ready to help out another pup in need and share your home and life with them.

My condolences, I rode my bike through a pet cemetery yesterday and the day before rode through a people cemetery
Even though I have dug Graves, past job working for the city. The pet one kinda chokes me up a bit. People cemeteries are kinda creepy

Frank went 18 years , long past but you never forget a good dog

Breeding dogs to be very small or very large is not a good idea and never has been.
Tons of health and longevity problems with a lot of dog breeds is due to humans thinking way, way outside of the natural canine range.
To the point where a number of dog breeds live their whole lives in physical distress.

I have no doubt that breeding dogs so small.. (at one stage I thought it might be a toy as I have seen very life like toy dogs before).. can cause all sorts of health problems.
