The old beagle playing the role of "cushion" for the beagle pup was the best freind I ever had. He passed five years ago this week. He was diabetic, blind and had Cushings. The pup was a surprise addition and in short order they created a bond unlike any I have ever seen before. I am sure his spark added several years to my old guys life. Been five years gone now and Lordy I still miss that guy. The pup is now my old man around the house now. Never was there a sweeter and gentler soul..... Yeah, I spoil my dogs just a little bit.

Pepper... When Blue, (the guy in my avatar), passed in June 2012 after 15 years, I thought I'd never be able to connect with another on that same level... Enter Pepper three months later, a four year old rescue mini dachshund who has blended into our lives. I've been a dog lover from my earliest days, and it culminates with this one

Add a quick funny story about the white beagle pup above.... We were selling our house about that time. Had the place decked out with new furniture looking all spiffy. I was painting the eves of the house red. Rambunctious puppy sees the paint can and knocks it over. Gallon of red paint in the backyard. I get all brilliant and scoop it up and go to the nearest beagle hole (notorious diggers). Scoop the paint in the hole and cover it. Problem solved. Came Home from work the next day. That pup dug up the red paint and there were hundreds of red puppy prints all over the house and new furniture. My wife cried two solid days. And I scrubbed for two solid weeks!

I've only belonged to one dog in my life that was a mutt whom a neighbor brought home in a box abandoned by the side of a road when i was about 11.

These days my world is ruled by a half a dozen cats in our house, plus this big oaf who is an untrained & spoiled wrecking ball that'll snatch the sandwich right out of your hand, and be into the compost bin the second nobody's home! She belongs to 2 housemates, & we're buds when she's not driving us crazy.
