When we first got Odie, we crated him at night for the first year, so he slept in his bed. After that, he slept in his bed on the couch. But one night my wife let him sleep with us, and now he won't sleep in his bed at night. He's only 20 lbs, so it's not a big deal. He's usually curled up under the covers next to my wife, unless she's gone, then it's next to me.
Not usually. My wife and I sleep with our door closed, and Ranger sleeps at the end of the hallway next to our door and outside our daughter's door. Usually he stays there all night, but sometimes he will be sprawled out on the living room couch in the morning (which is fine with us). On nights when I sleep in our extra bedroom, Ranger usually sleeps with me on the bed. He's not a snuggle-up dog. He always leaves some space between us.

I've been surprised to see so many pics here of dogs in bed with their owners, just never been a habit we've adopted.
I explained why not (two pages back) for the dogs we've taken in.

I believe the let them choose me theory, so I put my open hand down , and she came straight over and put her paws and chin in my hand.
The others weren't friendly much at all.

Other than daily walks, our dogs spend the day indoors, so they are fairly clean. They stay on top of the covers. About once a month, the cover gets washed.
I'm gonna guess you did not read my post from two pages ago... for us it has nothing to do with cleanliness or germs, it has to do with behavior training.
Couch is 100% ok for me. Bed? Not a "problem" technically, but my dogs aren't very interested and I never encouraged them to jump on it, so...
Anyway, I prefer a hair free bed for the night but I always sit on the same couch my dogs use to sleep, so technically I sleep with them. And I always have hairs all over my clothes.

We sometimes say "Our house is decorated in Early American Dog..."
I have black floor over the entire house, imagine multi coloured clumps of hairs rolling all over the house when I open a window. I also avoid clothes made from synthetic materials because they tend to attract hairs and it's hard to remove them. I've had a cool sweater for a while but I ended up getting rid of it when it started to look like this:

I have no clothes without dog hair on it. It's part of the gig.
As I said, all but one of them in the last ten years have not been my pets, and most of them have needed training.
...And I'm pretty sure we all have the same expectations that our pets behave well and in a safe manner.
