Buzzard, my 100+ pound Great Pyrenees was so scared of thunder he would hide in the bathtub when the storms came through.

Poor buddy!

When our pyr mix was a pup we'd heard about this propensity, so we made a point of taking him outside to play any time there was thunder or fireworks, giving him tons of treats and acting like we were having a great time. Seems to have mostly worked. He does get pretty spooked sometimes but brushes it off when we tell him it's OK.


He is terrified of the vet's stethoscope for some reason though. Never saw that one coming.

Little Bugsy is fine with thunder and fireworks. And he actively loves going to the vet. Only thing he's not to keen on is heavy traffic. Not that he won't cross the road. But some intersections on a Friday night you can see he's really happy to have someone along to make the call about when to cross.

Guess there's worse things for him to be scared of.

Three men fishing on a Mississippi lake were in the right place at the right time to save the lives of dozens of dogs.

The 38 hounds had been part of a fox hunt, but had gotten distracted and followed a deer into Grenada Lake in the north of the state earlier this month, according to media reports.

Bob Gist happened to be fishing on the lake with two others when they spotted the animals. It was clear that the dogs were not going to catch the deer, and the canines seemed lost and overwhelmed in the water.

“There were dogs everywhere,” Gist told The Associated Press. “They were kind of swimming in circles and didn’t know which direction to go.”

The dogs were at least 1 mile offshore and had been treading water for 45 minutes or more, WMC-TV reported. The animals’ panicked owners watched from the shore as Gist, his friend Brad Carlisle and fishing guide Jordan Chrestman pulled dogs from the water and loaded them into their boat.

The first boatload was packed with over two dozen dogs before the trio headed out to retrieve the rest, making three trips in total.

Still, Gist wasn’t totally sure whether they had saved all the dogs in the lake or some may have drowned before they got there.

“We were scared to ask,” he told news site Jonesboro Right Now. “All I know is we rescued every dog we saw.”

The rescuers turned down reward money from the dogs’ owners, he said.

I only have 3 dogs, and they're all small. When I'm in the studio, they all manage to fit into the small bed I have there. But it's amazing how much space they can take on the bed while I'm washing up and brushing my teeth before bed. Two of the three are under the covers. I have to figure out where they are and wedge myself in. Why can't they sleep like this in the bed and leave me some space?

I never allow a dog up in my bed, sends the wrong message. I will get down on the floor and love up my dog in his bed though.

Our rescue Lily clearly slept with her previous owner, because the first night we had her she jumped up on the bed at bedtime. But she does wait until we're in bed first, and she's small enough (25 lbs) that she doesn't take up much space and knows to find her space between us.
