Old dog and a young dog. Good move. Former can teach the latter new tricks. When Casey starts slowing down, you might want to organise a chill out space for him. We let the old dog indoors. But puppy got to wait until s/he is the old dog.

May not be tactful to mention, but the OD/YD continuity takes a lot of the sting out of it when the OD passes on.
I agree...however, we lost Casey in 2017 (tumor on her spleen; we had her spleen removed & were hopeful. Not meant to be).
We just lost Cody last month (apparently, a tumor on his spleen began bleeding. He was almost 14).

We said "No more" & I was, I guess, OK with that. I was at the point where the pain is not worth the reward.
Things do happen for a reason. My wife said "...we only live once. WTH".
1 day in & this guy is a handful! :)

Still life of Kona with spring haircut and completely focused on a peanut butter container. I love him looking like this. At 6 and a half he is still 100% puppy albeit a puppy that sleeps a lot. Digital dog, on or off...

we just shifted his diet to non-kibble. 2 feedings per day, 12 to 13 oz per based on his weight and activity. about half protein and half veg plus a little fruit. A little scoop of a probiotic.

He's down 10 or 12 lbs and closer to his ideal weight. In 60 days. This is really good as he has a potential disk issue in his lower back and keeping the weight down will help. Amazing...i could probably follow suit... one interesting thing... lots less processed dog food in the yard. The vet tells us this is because he is able to make use of the new food

BTW - this is what 20 years and 5 dogs do to new oak. we call it, uh distressed red oak flooring ;-)
