I run my SLO relatively flat and there's a slight amount of breakup in there where the Cali76 is pushing the front end. The Benson Pre colors the sound like a Benson amp and adds a touch more gain and pushes the tube a bit more. It's a really pleasant vintage drive sound that I could use all night; but typically find spots for it, mostly when using a pick. This is an all new rig too for me BTW; which I plan to use with ears like I did in the video below. The song I queued up for you I'm using the Benson pre into the SLO the entire time.

Update to my post #78 a year ago: on the same Pedaltrain Jr., T-16 octave --> Alpha-Omega dirt --> loop blending previous with sub-loop of blended Green Russian reissue & Animato fuzz --> Filter Twin --> Smoothie compressor --> B3 multi-fx. Ditched the clean Sansamp DI out before dirt, which let me ditch the Pitchblack Mini tuner up front. Switched out old EBS MultiComp for Smoothie which allows more sculpting and has more headroom for hot basses. Added Filter Twin, which is a filter you can take home to Grandma (wetter and wilder ones on B3). Lessons learned: keeping sub-loop LS-2 always on is better than keeping upper loop always on, so you don't lose *any* low end when switching both on for clean/fuzz blend (is anything worse than kicking on effects and hearing the lows shrivel, even a little?!); compressor after envelope filter tames any quacky peaks without losing response from playing dynamics; compressor after dirt/fuzz isn't breaking the law and actually makes the crunch crunchier despite maybe losing some "air." Love this setup--for now! ;D

The OvniFX Smoothie is a "boutique" compressor by someone who knows a little something about compressors--check out his reviews and FAQ at www.ovnilab.com and the Smoothie at www.ovnifx.com. Zachary Rizer has a great review:
There are Talkbass threads dedicated to it. I'm a newbie user but so far it's great, and very smooth of course!

Plans for this one got thrown off a bit (still not sure when I'll have my Bass Octave Deluxe & it turned out there was no way everything was going to fit comfortably on a PT Jr.) but here's the latest:

bass > Junction Box (under board) > Bass Compressor > PolyTune 3 > Hors d'Oeuvre (right) {Unpleasant Surprise > Lillian > MDB2 > SFT} > Barbershop > Hors d'Oeuvre (left) {Randy's Revenge > Dispatch Master} > ParaEQ > Junction Box > amp

Once I get the Bass Octave Deluxe it'll sit in place of the SFT w/ the following routing of the right Hors d'Oeuvre:
Bass Octave Deluxe > Unpleasant Surprise > Lillian > MDB2

Some day here I want to get a Shallow Water to check out on here in place of Randy's Revenge too.

Got the Bass Octave Deluxe on the PT Novo 18 setup:

Reworked the routing on the right hand Hors d'Ouevre to compensate:
Bass Octave Deluxe > Unpleasant Surprise > Lillian > MBD2

Everything seems to be working really well so far for bass & it's particularly fun playing the board for noise making or playing w/ synth/sequencer/Kaosillator plugged into it. The feedback & phase controls on the Hors d'Oeuvres are pretty powerful when I'm in that mode.

I only use the smooth jazz delay
I am not a bassist who changes effects much
I found that setting give me what I want on the guitar solos to thicken up the sound
So it’s just on or off for my needs
