Show your Zoom B2 settings!

I just bought a Zoom B2 to replace my Zoom 506II. I already have an expression pedal so I saved the extra $89 :-)

I'm looking forward to trying it out and testing some of your presets here. First off I'm really digging the C7 "Tube Pre" sound. Very Nice!

Cool! welcome, zoomer...

yes, if you already have an expression pedal, it's a tough call to go B2.1u vs. B2...but the B2.1u also offers a USB port and Cubase LE software for doing a little bit of recording.

an additional expression pedal is also a cool add-on to the B2.1u...because you can use the add-on as a volume pedal, and use the built-in for things like a Wah pedal, or adjusting reverb, or pitch-bend...it's a really flexible piece of gear for the price...

Can I ask how you EQ'd that patch? I just today received my 5 string SX and Im having some trouble getting my low B to come through loud enough

no problem...I'll be digging it out tomorrow for church...I'll scribe the settings down, then...

One thing I have found is that certain amp models do better than others with the B-string, too...

One question, first: how does your B-string sound without the zoom?

I've only had my Zoom B2 for about a week, but my B string from my SX BG-205 sings through it. Same for my OLP "Stingray" style bass and even my JB Player 5 string acoustic bass.

But that's only if I turn off the low EQ altogether. If I try to use any of the low EQ, things get muddy or thin. Just my experience so far.

And since I'm playing through my Acme cabs I tend to not want a cabinet emulation, so I've turned off most of the cab emulations on the factory presets.

Another thing I've noticed is that the compresor seems darn noisy at anything other than really light settings. I get a horrible hiss out of it. I can remedy the hiss with the ZNR (Zoom Noise Reduction), but that only works for when I'm not playing anything. On Sunday, I tried to use a patch that I had made with light compression and a light chorus during a slow worship song. I had to bypass the thing because the hiss was too bad.

One of the reasons I replaced my Zoom 506II Bass pedal was because of a nasty 'hum' (wasn't 60 hertz) that I'd get on several of my patches, even when bypassed when I used any power supply other than batteries (even the Zoom power supply).

dialed this up on my Zoom B2.1U for a nice phat sound:

Code:
COMP/LIM LN 5, 10, 88 Limiter
WAH/EFX oF effect off
DRIVE/Synth tU 1, 5, 34 Tube model
ZNR/MIX nr E9, 88, 80 noise reduction
LO EQ oF low pass off
HI EQ HP SH, 80,-12 high pass shelf 800 Hz -12dB
MOD/SFX SC 30, 29, 26 Stereo chorus 30% mod. 29 rate, 26% blend
DELAY oF
REVERB rN 12, 4, 76 reverb room model
PEDAL Ct uL, bP, 80 control pedal to volume

so far sounds nice. YMMV

Hmmm...interesting...EQ is basically a Low Pass 800Hz 12dB...

a little chorus for sweetener...a little room verb to fatten it up

only thing I'd do is back off the noise reduction...I don't use anything about E1 or 2 if any...

I gotta try it out

Does anyone else get a hiss or "ssshhhh" sound out of the compressor in the B2?

Just to buck the trend, I'm doing things arseways...I'm using my G2.1U for Bass purposes.

I had fully intended geting a B2.1U as soon as possible after getting the Bass, but other things get in the way. I've been very pleasantly surprised at the results I've been getting. These Zoom units are extremely versatile. As I'm still learning, all I really need is some output, so because of my satisfaction with the G2.1U, I'm not needing to rush into buying a B2.1U. I can't help but wonder, how much difference there would be in any given setting. By that, I mean, perhaps at one extreme, my COMP + Wah/EFX + Drive etc setting on a G2.1U may be exactly similar to some setting on a B2. That can probably be only tested when I have both side by side for an A/B test.

I'll post my patches as soon as I get them in some kind of order. I think I've got 2 or 3 now. Clean mainly, but seeing as I'm modding my Bass now, things have taken a slight turn.

My thanks to Bassbengoa for starting this thread, to phillm47, Mcgiver69 and Fleizenkruz and others for their contributions, and especially Pilbara though, who has kept this thread running. I hope to be able to contribute something more substantial and useful soon.

You're most welcome, Walnut :)...I just plain dig my zoom...

I'm using my B2.1u for my Yamaha Pac112 guitar, as well as my basses...I reserved a whole bank of patches for it...I'm finally getting some really good Tube Screamer tones from it...it's taken me a little while to get there, but I'm really happy with some of the guitar sounds this thing can produce.

I've had a b21u for about a year now. Don't know much about it. I use it as an interface, and put it on patch 13 to record my bass. Don't even know what patch that actually is, but it sounds real natural with my bongo and stingray.

I need to plug into this thread for obvious reasons. I may even read the whole thing one day. :)

Well, I decided to exchange my B2 for a B2.1u

Whoa! The sound and patches are the same, but that dedicated expression pedal is awesome and very easy to select the various functions you want the pedal to control. And my external expression pedal now functions as a dedicated volume pedal :) Niiiiice!
