Over the weekend I played the one notoriously "busy" room, where it's the only venue I had to change to a different channel than what I usually left it on, and this time I didn't have to do anything since the update. Even happier now!
The flap missing means nothing. As mentioned the link is a two step process, so the button is not an issue. I too updated the firmware just because, since I've never had an issue with it. The battery life is amazing and on the hundreds of gigs I've used it on, have never had to change the channel even once. It truly is one of those worry free designs. Even the rare event where I forgot to charge the battery, a quick charge before and between each set easily got me through the night. With that said, I ALWAYS have a cable run ready to go at a moments notice if the unit ever does fail. The only issue I ever had with the unit was a operator error moment that totally freaked me out. During sound check I could get nothing out of the unit. It would not power up no matter what. After thinking the unit was dead, someone asked if it was turned on which I replied it always is, completely forgetting it actually has an on/of switch.

sound like you should have bought the GLXD-14, the amp-top version of the same system; it skips the tuner for a nice extra battery recharger.
Good point and I did consider it instead. But I have a ton of pedals and a board that I haven’t yet taken out of the house. I figured I may as well get the pedal version (GLXD16) since I’m playing around with different pedal configurations and will likely find a small set that will be useful in the band I recently joined. For now, the receiver is fine sitting on top of my amp.
Having the built in charger could be useful, but I also bought a second battery and always keep both charged so I do have a spare with me.

I had another thread about this with no replies so I’m going to ask here since you seem to know the system well- what are the differences between the amp top and pedal versions besides charger/tuner? Is the sound quality and reception pretty much equal?
pretty sure it's essentially the same system
i made a similar decision when i got a line 6 relay G75 amptop wireless instead of the basically identical G70 pedal version; i use wireless with different bands and even different instruments, so a pedalboard version wouldn't have worked because i use different pedalboards depending on the gig. plus, unlike the shure, the line 6 tuner is not so great. (like the system though, regular 1/4" cable plug and super-fast 1.5ms latency)
