Haha! I tried to run away from home once. Only once. My dad told me that I could go, but I could only take what was mine. I started out the door with a Raggedy Ann doll and a paper grocery sack full of clothes. He calmly took those out of my hands and told me that he bought those, so they were his. I shrugged and started for the door again. Then he told me that I'd have to leave the clothes I was wearing since he bought those and they were his, as well. I shrugged, peeled out of my clothes, and went out the back door. Sat on the step naked for about 2 minutes, then went in the house and got dressed. I never threatened to run away again.

I never understood that logic. To me that's like saying "we are not friends anymore, so return all the gifts i gave you." Like i get it, you paid for that, you bought it for me, so yeah, maybe you shouldn't have.

At least that was my response growing up... then again, i was a terrible kid, i kinda hate myself as a kid/teenager...

Maturity is realizing you would hate the person you used to be.

That's the lesson, though. The kid doesn't own the stuff, it's just being provided to them, not given. A concept that obviously is difficult for a child to grasp. Depending on the child's behavior it may become necessary at times to have that point clarified for them.

Yeah, reaching your thirties can be a difficult time emotionally.

:D

;)

So then, this wasn't really a ragequit or a hissyquit, it was just more like, "I'm going to run away from home now!" to see if Mom or Dad would stop him? Or, am I misguided yet again?

Any attention is good attention.

When do the emotions kick in? Ive just over 6 months to go...

Around 30 your body begins to change. Your pimples start to appear on your back instead of your face, your voice slowly becomes more defeated as it outgrows its youthful enthusiasm and drops into a more somber key, you start to notice "sale" signs in stores and your emotions boil down into a sort of neutrality that no longer swings wildly from one to the next.

Then you grow antlers.

That, my dear, is a broken engagement or a divorce. We're breaking up, I want all the stuff I bought you from the moment I ever met you.

Hahahaha!!!!!!

I could throw a good tantrum up until about age 6. After that, I was pretty much The Wall that separates the North from What Lies Beyond the Wall. I will say, however, that my late forties have been my emotional hotbed. I don't much like it and I'm not exactly dealing with it as well as I'd like. I keep hoping I'll wake up one day and those icky emotions will have gone into hibernation. No luck so far though.

Fixed it for you. :D
