Kind of like the occasional "drop-in troll" that posts in a thread about something he dislikes just to tell everybody that he thinks it sucks.

I'd like to see that in real life. Someone going into a bar just to tell everyone how immature and stupid drinking is and that personally they've never understood the allure of it (so therefore everyone else should reconsider their own opinions).

I suspect, in keeping with his passions, this was a sociology experiment.

That would be a reasonable conjecture, except this thread already has way too large of a sample size. I was under the impression that TwoFingers believed that all sociological knowledge could be gained from an n of 1 in which he was the sole participant. His bootstrap theory, however, does posit an interesting competing argument against Bourdieu's thinking on habitus and social capital. Bourdieu would argue that, yes, of course it's easier to go to college in your 40s when you already own several businesses and you're married to an MD; the bootstrap theory, however, refutes this claim by revealing that people are still equalized insofar as educational opportunities because one's significant other still has student loans left over from med school.

Depends on the jurisdiction. In community property states, it's 50/50. Elsewhere, it's what the attorneys negotiate and can be passed off as "equitable."

I don't get the logic there, either. If it's a relationship then the stuff you bought was a gift. I've never wanted any of the gifts that I bought back when a relationship ended. I could see a ring being the exception to that but I've never bought a ring for anyone.



I've also heard people say they threw out whatever their ex bought them when they broke up. I don't get that either. In my case, it was nice stuff! I still have some of it! When I think about what I spent on gifts in the relationship, I can't say the stuff was none too inexpensive, either! You best believe I'm keepin' it!

Not everyone is as logical as we are in TBOT. I had an ex ask for everything he bought me back when we divorced. Then I showed the judge the massive withdrawals he made from our bank accounts at the ATM a block from his other wife's house.
