We apparently have daffodils coming up. In New England, in February. This just isn't right. I should go out and see if the mountain laurel is budding.

Everything in Eastern NC is in full bloom way early this year.

Last year the weather ruined the stone fruit because it got warm enough for things to start blooming and growing, and then we had a killing cold snap. Couldn't get our favorite plums at the farm stand because they just didn't have any.

We had a few unseasonable warm days approaching 60F, and I could turn the pellet stove off during the day, but it's over. Snowstorm all day today. Weather folks say don't expect to see it again till winter is over. Typically here, new snowfall drags off and on until the 2nd week of May.

^ we get the same thing with the local cherry crop.

Sorry to those that did not get plums and cherries last year, mine were few also.

We have had a very moderate Winter here, it has been in at least the high 30's most of January and February with it reaching consistently in the 50's and even a few times in the 70's. Weather around the Midwest you just never know, it's literally 38 and a rain storm one day, then 75 and sunny the next, then four inches of snow and 27 the next type of weather.

It's 37 degrees and raining liquid, instead of 35 degrees and raining chunks.

Once again, I didn't move to these tropical latitudes so it could snow on me. And I expected a lot more near-50 degree days. Not.

Ummm... I joke about spring being here (it has been unseasonably warm)... but spring is a good two months off

Many say spring is like a rebirth or new beginnings. Up north it's more like cleaning up after a baby is born. Mud and dirty snow everywhere. All the animal crap and dead animals from the winter resurface, thaw, and decompose at once, it smells like death in the air. Combined with all the skunks coming out of hibernation at once. It's still too cold for anything to grow. Thankfully spring is sometimes short and it goes right from winter to summer.

Now fall on the other hand, makes up for spring's shortcomings. Well defined and the best time to be outside IMO.
