Silly Question

if i'm reading a tab and it says to hit 0 on an A chord where do i put my finger on the fret board???.....do i put it at the very edge of the neck as if it was another fret or do i just hit the chord without using a fret?.....i just started playing bass two days ago so sorry if this sounds dumb...thanks for any help in advance

Im pretty sure what you're describing is an open A on the third string

Anyway "o" means to play note on a open string.
