Simnett Guitars - Flame Box Elder Singlecut

But seriously though Simo...wheres the sawdust?

I like to keep it in here ;) :D

Ok I've had enough of this guy's accusations of altering my photos. Here is the photo I posted to eBay. What he downloaded and did to after I have no clue. I do know I have sold hundreds of these top sets and he is the only complaint. Go check my feedback for all my items. Not one negative in 7 years. That doesn't happen to sellers that alter their photos! You will find that accuracy of photos is one of the top comments. Like I told him in the email he decided to ignore while blasting me in a form he didn't think I would see, "Calibrate your monitor!".
I take my line of work very serious and to have someone question my ethics and call me "stupid" is unacceptable. When I have clients telling me someone is posting unflattering comments on a blog site and that it could be potentially damaging to my sales we have a problem. Go to my store, read my feedback and you decide. I supply many guitar and bass makers much more prominent than this guy and their basses with my wood are on tour all over the world so I can't be as "stupid" as he would have you believe, I wouldn't still be here if I was! :spit:

Dear Rich, I see were you come from, but the way you post your reaction doesn't help to promote your business, really. I am neutral in this: no connections to you or the OP, but as I read your reply, you seem to be a bit hotheaded. Also, he doesn't call you stupid, but the fact that the image is altered (apart from the fact if that is the case).

Saying that photoshoping a piece of wood that looks as good as what he is using is stupid is completely different than calling you stupid.

And it is true that the red your picture is much more pronounced than the pictures he took. So I can see where one would think the image was altered.

His description of his transaction with your company wouldn't have had any negative influence on me buying from you. But your angry, hot headed post surely makes me think twice about any future purchase from your company.

That's because he sanded off the clear protective sealer coat I ship all of my top sets with.
As far as being angry and hot headed go read his Facebook comments before you make me the bad guy. I'm not going to apologize for defending my business and my ethics. I take them very seriously and if you don't get it oh well. I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot it would different.

So you apply a coat to it? That would perfectly explain why the grain, structure and color are more visible and of higher contrast. IMO you could've just mentioned that and it would be all clear and okay.

The Facebook comments are not visible for me and since you were reacting on this forum topic, I read your post based on the comments of the OP in this thread. I understand your urge to react very well, but I still think a calm reaction based on facts (like the clear coat) would make your company look better and more professional. It's nice wood you sell.

Back on topic: I like your guitars and basses a lot, especially the clean and precise way of working, cannot wait to see more of this!

No if the shoe was on the other foot, I would just ignore any negative comments and show some confidence in my company. Instead of going through the trouble of joining a web forum with the soul intention of writing an angry hot headed reply in a thread in which one of my products were being displayed

But that's just me.

+1

I started following this thread because (1) other builds from Simo have turned out great and (2) the box elder top was absolutely stunning.

I can understand being defensive if you feel your business practices are being questioned or your integrity impugned, but I do think a calm, factual response is always the best course. Had you simply said that you put a protective sealer coat on tops I think everyone would understand the situation.

A luthier that has built basses for me is always quick to point out that the woods in pictures he sends me have (usually) been wet down with naphtha for the photo to give a better idea of what the wood will look like finished. Same thing.

Again, I understand why you are angry, but a calm, rational explanation will always go farther in terms of (1) correcting the original misunderstanding and (2) making a good impression on others that might use your service in the future than an angry, defensive one will.

Wow... ok, let's clear some things up. First of all I have never e-mailed you to complain about this piece nor have you e-mailed me. As I've previously stated I was happy with the wood and the service provided, I merely suggested in the POSITIVE ebay feedback that I left you, that the picture could of been more accurate... which you choose to respond to with a sarcastic answer.

I have never called you stupid or questioned your ethics.

Anyway, I'm here to talk with other luthier's, to exchange ideas and to show my work, not to argue with people... so I'll leave it at that.
