Simple cab design 1x12... your comments please

There really isn't room for front to back sticks thst wouldn't be fairly close to the corners.

Two could be attached at the 1/3 span points across the back, angled enough to catch the baffle just to either side of the driver.

The panels could vibrate a lot. IME if you must use spline braces they should be at least 3 inches deep to adequately stiffen panels of that size. And IME only use spline braces where cross braces can't be.

Ya, I'd run a stick of crossbrace top to bottom and side to side. There really isn't room for front to back sticks thst wouldn't be fairly close to the corners, so I'd add a couple more splines to the back wall. This would only amount to a few cubic inches and wouldn't throw off your design enough to notice, the stiff box will be worth it. If you're concerned about shrinking it too much, swiss-cheese the splines.

More bracing...
I found some wood leftovers from a bookshelf (Oak I think) I Cut them in 1/2" x 1/2" sticks of the appropriate lenght and ran 2 top to bottom and 1 side to side

Thinking ahead:

Once this first single 12" is done obviously I have to listen to it for a while and see if i like it. Given that.

What are my options:

1.- Select the 6" driver and crossover from a commercial source (such as Eminence ALPHALITE 6A-CBMR + PXB2:800 corossover combo from express-parts).

2.- Test them by getting the response curve with REW or something simmilar and compare it with the reading of my studio monitors wich are suposed to be flat (to substract the room effects). And then try to find something matching, design crossover, get the parts etc... HARDER

I know somebody is going to try to kill me with that testing method I just came up with

It might not be earthquake deep or super bright but It is tuned exactly where I like it. Band mates were turning their heads to my little box all night. They told me that they were KICKED clearly by every single note I played.

I loved it! I can't wait to start making the 12/6

Sounds like you got it right then. As for the bracing, rap on it with your knuckkes all over the box, if all areas give a good high pitched whack, no lower pitched thud, it's good. Then put it on the bed or something to isolate it from the vibrating floor. Turn up loud, start at your lowest note and walk up chromatically feeling around the box for vibrations on each note, if there aren't any, you're good. The la6cbmr is one closedback, easy add-on mid that's lower cost and a pretty good spl match for the deltalite.

If adding a 6, I'd put it in a little topbox or build it into another matching cab for yours. I'd leave that 112 as is with the symetrical ports. In either case you'd end up with a little 6 box or subchamber, then you're not limited to closedbacks. I have a subchamber in mine and have had 2 different 6's in there so far, currently a Celestion closedback I got out of a PA cab. It runs a little hotter than the previous alpha6, but the closedbacks have a higher fs, I find them to get a little "rough around the edges" when you really push them. Not too bad but could be smoother. Some of that is other driver characteristics but I attribute some of it to that higher fs. Looking at the FaitalPro 6pr-110 as a possible upgrade. Many other choices out there if you don't have to have a closedback. Although somebody on here used the la6cbmr and 800hz emi. crossover as an add-on to an Avatar 112 and liked the results. The Avatar is an OEM version of your driver, but doesn't have as much top end as the stock deltalites.

Hi there!

I'm considering the eminence alphalites to pair with the deltalite II 2512. The open back one is a little less sensitive but the two of them seem to have 14ohms or so @1.4khz where the deltalite are 8....

Would anybody point me in the right direction here?

best match? crossover freq?

ANY SUGGESTED READING FOR ME TO EASILY UNDERSTAND ALL THIS???

Hi!
After I completed this easy to construct, no electronics single 12'er I was drowned by the huge attention the feaful's got and build one 12/6 cube with the kappalite and the 18 sound driver... Well, enough is said already about this cabs, and their sound, all I want to say is... Is all TRUE!!

So now I'am with one single 12 sounding very different (and louder) than the fearful 12/6. I have tried to use them together but I don't really like the results.

So! keeping the fearful aside I have a spare deltalite II 2512 and an Alphalite 6A-CBMR that were intended to use in a 12/6 (before i built the fearful). This lead me to my new DIY (learn alot) project:

Naturally a 2x12 + 6 (Whith the deltalites and the 6ACBMR) But WAIT! I've allways liked the sound of closed 4x10's and 8x10's

I have searched for Closed 12/12/6 or 12 12 designs with no luck. May be some one hera have gone that way or know of any good experience with that config?

How do you guys think it would sound? Simmilar to a closed 4x10 but with a little more low end but with less volume?

I've always been a fan of infinite baffle (sealed) bass cabs. I'm in the process of building two 2x12s, though not to be used together, as my amp won't power down to 2 ohms... Unless I change my mind about the drivers, and install 4 ohm pairs in each cabinet...

I've been using a vintage Sunn PA column cabinet that was cut down to 2x12 from 4x12 (in-line). I replaced the OE drivers with Eminence Beta drivers. Small, light enough to be easy to transport, and sounds great to me. The lows aren't as pronounced as they would be in a tuned, ported cabinet. But that suits my playing style and preferences. I really like this old Sunn cab, which is why I began building my own.

The Sunn didn't have enough space between driver holes to install the Delta Lite IIs, or 3012s that I'd like to use... And that's the other reason I'm building my own (besides liking the sound).

If you'd like some dimensions, or or other details of the Sunn to use in your cab designer program, I'd be happy to help.
