Singing with IEM's

the bass player in my band that uses IEMs likes his amp behind him too, to act as a sort of "buttkicker", putting out some low end he can feel, rather than just hear in the ears.

he does other gigs in bigger places (with symphonies no less!) and just runs the IEMs with no bass amp, and it's fine.

(he's using a sansamp as his pre, so it's the same tone direct, through his in-ears, or coming out of the amp.)

Stupid question but do you have your bass amp on stage when using IEM? If so why?

I'm one of those rare bassists that doesn't have an amp (and have never had one). My only 'gig' is at church, where I go direct and use IEMs. I've never felt the need for the 'buttkicker' effect, but then again I've not played with an amp so don't feel like I'm missing out. I get plenty of bass and kick drum in my ears then add the other instruments and vocals from there.

I was thinking of using a micro head with 1x12/2x10 for low volume rehearsals/gigs and using the same micro head as a preamp (with DI) for bigger gigs. So your answers validate what I had in mind.

But now it's leading to another question (in fact 3)!!!
Do you go wire or wireless for in-ears?
If wired, do you have a one-cable solution for bass/earphones (with splitting connectors on both ends)?
Apart for earphones (I already have a set) what are you using?
