Single Cut basses, Just a fad?

The stiffness theory is at least semi convincing, though what would prevent a “ski-jump” from forming at that point instead of at the body joint on single cut? In the absence of proven advantage, it’s an aesthetic choice. I’ve seen a few I like and a lot I don’t.
An overgeneralization thread...is it a fad at TB?

Personally, I like some of the visuals on certain single-cuts (the Brubaker Brute MJXSC comes to mind), but the only way I'd ever get one is if it was a four-banger with a neck profile that agrees with my fretting hand.
Just a fad? I don't know the answer to that question as I cannot foresee the future.
I personally do not care for the looks of single cut basses, but that's just my own personal preference. Different people like different things, just like food, cars, clothing, etc. And thank goodness for differences! Otherwise life would be boring.

Yeah, between the "Hey, (insert piece of gear here) sucks, amirite?" threads, multiple troll threads of this guy supposedly obsessing over scuffs/dents/sandpaper marks and Rumbledore's undecipherable posts about his feverish dreams involving canned pasta, I'd say there's been quite a dramatic drop in thread quality lately.

From observing some famous and not so famous TBrs, ignoring moderator requests to modify your content to meet TB rules over a period of time can eventually get you banned. It's pretty easy not to get a permaban if you're so inclined.i don't know --- i don't know why anyone gets banned. i don't think it's ever shared with the larger group. public shaming should work here, don't you think?
Personally I think single cut basses look unbalanced, whereas double cuts look correct. That may be due to thousands of double cut basses and a handful of singles by comparison. I believe weight may be a factor, and the getting used to looking down and seeing wood where there normally is space. I can't used to a 24 fret Carvin LB70, I'd go nuts with a single cut. I don't begrudge anyone else the pleasure of using one, it just looks like too much of stretch out of my comfort zone. I can't speak on the integrity of the neck/body joint of a single, only to say that the standard double cut basses have no noticeable issues that would need to be remedied by the extra material.

There are lots of single cut styles. Les Paul guitar or Hofner Club to an Elrick. What would a Hofner 500-1 be considered? Zero cut?
I never had the chance to try one, but the electronics are intriguing. I wonder how close it is to a Ripper.

I don't know. I have never played a Ripper. The pickups are humbuckers. It's not a speaker blower like old mudbuckers were, but it gets pretty thick and powerful. Better to have the power and dial it back than want it and not have it. Lots of things are like that.
