Single Cutaways - love the look / hate the look?

Single-cuts just look incredibly chunky. Like they need to go on a diet or something.

Oh my freaking GOD! I hate, HATE, H A T E the look of these things! >.<
The odd thing is I can't actually come up with a valid reason for my (over?) reaction, I just totally and utterly abhor the look of all single-cut basses!

As a bass, I don't like that at all. As a piece of art and woodworking, it is beautiful. I guess I like to look at it, but have no desire to play it.
I am the opposite. I think the BTB is a bad example of a singlecut. It is all out of balance and just looks like the bandsaw broke before they quit cutting the body. The SR, on the other hand, is beautifully balanced, and is one of the best looking singlecuts I have ever seen.

I see it as functional art myself but understand it's not to everyone's taste just as many on here are not to my liking as well.
Think that I'm going to have to 'unwatch' this threat before I get myself into trouble....
In terms of 'real' balance between Terra Firma (the BTB) vs. Cerro (the SR), there's a review by TBer mentioning the SR is suffering of slight head-body balance or neck dive due to strap pin placement not reaching up to the 12th fret, whereas the BTB doesn't have this kind of symptom due to heavier body and the strap pin is in-line with the 12th.
Well? Some hate it - some love it. They're also associated more with more jazz fusion and other avant-garde styles of music. Haven't yet seen one used in mainstream rock or metal. So is it a look and image thing? Or is it purely a sound and tone thing?
You could really whale on one of those things.

I'll bet it is a beauty in person. I wasn't trying to belittle your tastes; I hope it wasn't interpreted that way.
Interesting. I did not know that. However, I was talking about visual symmetry when I said "balance," so I guess I didn't use the right word. I think the singlecut BTB looks top heavy, while the singlecut SR looks much less so. I also like the look of the doublecut SR over the doublecut BTB. Ironically, I own a BTB and not an SR.
yup, I understand what you've meant by that "balance". I also feel the BTB single cut looks top heavy. And in reality, it does contribute to make the whole BTB single cut heavier. At least my single cut 5 string 35" scale BTB is 0.6 Kg heavier than my dual cut 6 string 35.5"~33.6" scale SR.
