Single Malt Scotch!

Fiddlers Arms in Drumnadrochit (Drum-na-drok-it) is the best whisky bar / restaurant i know. Go there every year for my holidays and i'm a regular visitor in the Fiddlers while there. The owner is involved in the Scottish Whisky Board altho not sure what they actually do other than tasting some very nice whisky's. 
We need to get you guys saying Whisky rather than Scotch. Cannae get used to hearing that terminology of Scotch. If anything it would be a Scotch Whisky but saying as i'm a tourist on your Forum i really shouldn't mention these things.

Had a great time in Elgin, Scottland. There was a little bar there that actually taught my wife to enjoy scotch as well. She still talks about that and how the bar tender knew so many nuances of each malt, that he was able to guide her likes and dislikes to one she truly enjoyed. We are heading back again soon.
Actually I'm new enough to this whisky thing not to even know what is appropriate! It's nice to pick up the nuances. Ahhh, life-long learning is such a wonderful thing, so much to find in this world! Years ago it was homebrewing and beer judging, then after 15 years in my field I liked being an industrial trainer so much that I went back and got my teaching degree (I got my degree about when my kids got theirs,) started learning to play bass 12 years ago at 50, and so much to learn with that yet, now this very enjoyable distraction. Life is good!
I have to admit that there are several guys on this thread that know their Whisky extremely well. I'm learning a lot from this thread. It always amazes me how people enjoy different Malts. There's so much variety in flavour and people's tastes.
I wonder if different countries enjoy a specific type or taste or is it solely down to the individual pallet. ?

I agree, but at least here in the states i really feel like their price has gone up too much over the years, so i don't buy it as much as i used to. i tend to get the highland park 18 instead of the mac 18 most of the time now. thankfully i still have some mac 18 so i can have both, but once my mac 18 runs out, it'll be a hard choice to replenish at these prices.

It is an alcoholic beverage especially suited for soothing the frayed nerves of anyone unlucky enough to drive on Colorado freeways. OMG! I was in the Denver area over the weekend and I have never encountered worse driving in any state. Even Los Angeles and NYC are better.
I live about 35 miles south of Denver and you are correct about the drivers. Worst I have ever seen and it keeps getting worse. We're looking for a new place further from the city. It's too beautiful here to have to fight traffic all day.
The area is absolutely lovely; i can see why people want to live there. Simply a fabbo state.
And to be fair, the driving issues on full display that day happen all over this country--there has been a general disregard for simple driving laws and common courtesy (driving slowly in the left lanes, driving crazy fast in the right and cutting in and out, cell phone users, etc.)
I-25 was just ridiculous. There were no accidents and while the traffic volume was an issue, it really was only because people were driving as if a rubber band was attached to their car. Speeding up and throwing on the brakes. Rinse and repeat. Basically, people tailgate because they are in fear someone will merge in front of them. It fosters very aggressive driving. It creates accidents and causes wild speed fluctuations. It is a national disease.
Back to on-topic Scotch stuff:
I am less of a heavily-peated Scotch fan but I do enjoy them about 30% of the time (Talisker especially). I have watched this thread for awhile and my hunch is that the peated crowd doesn't really drink non-peated expressions very often and I see evidence that the non-peated crowd mostly stick to their 'milder' bottles.

My experience is limited by my budget and the ridiculous way liquor is sold where I live, but I like Laphroaig and Auchentoshan about equally.
That said, I've never really had a single malt that I didn't enjoy on some level.
Me. I used to heavily lean towards peat, but I like both ends of the spectrum at this point.
As long as it's excellent it's hard to turn down. Balvenie 15 and Ardbeg Corryvreckan are both my absolute favorite.
