That's an excellent description of a whisky. Wish i could describe them like that.

Single Malt Scotch!

I'm more of a Bourbon/Rye guy, but chatting with @XXL , I decided to jump into the Scotch side of things with this
I haven't had a whole lot of scotch throughout the years, but what I had, I enjoyed enough.
Mainly just the blends of Chivas Regal, Johnny Walker, with My only experience with single-malt being Speyburn 10, as it was fairly reasonable in price.
Upon trying the HP12, it had that peaty/smoky character of scotch, which I enjoyed, and helped differentiate it from my usual choice of whiskey.
The three main things that really grabbed me, were how light-bodied it was, along with being incredibly smooth,
and having a nice, long, smoky finish.

Its funn how all our tastes differ. My Father In Law got me started on Malt whisky about 30yrs ago and it was Highland Park. I never really associate HP with peaty smokey flavour but its ben a good few yrs since trying it. I have a bottle in the house that's not been opened yet so i think i will introduce myself to it this weekend.

glad I could bring back some good memories.I don't have the most developed palate, so the smoky/peaty character is the best description I can give, as that's the inherent flavor I pick up on with any scotch I've had. I'm not nearly as educated as some folks in here.
Peaty? Oh yeah, HP's got it. Not an Islay, heck no, but a nice kick, especially on the finish. Open and enjoy!
One of if not my favorite scotch. I've liked every expression of Highland Park Ive tried.
Yeah the island of Orkney has their own style of peat and makes the taste of Highland Park quite original.
I've been enjoying Ardbeg 10 lately. I'm still not feeling punched in the face with peat so I might have to splurge for something like octomore.

Seems they've stopped production of my fav tipple Isle of Jura Duirachs Own 16yr old. Struggling to find it in the local shops this year. Better start looking for a replacement
If you're enjoying the Ardbeg make sure to try their Corryvreckan when you get the chance.
Not if he's looking for a big peat profile. Go with Ardbeg Uigedail in that case or Supernova if you can find it.
Neither am I, but the Corryvreckan completely replaced the Uigeadail for me and has been one of my absolute favorites from the start. Great stuff and likely to be enjoyed by anyone liking the Ardbeg 10 in my experience.
I'd sure like to have some Supernova again, if I could find it.
I can appreciate that. At the time I was in Edinburgh on vacation, Corryvreckan was named scotch of the year and I made sure to buy a bottle to bring home thinking I might not be able to find it again. Lo and behold the stuff was at my state liquor store and selling for less than I paid in Scotland.
We always charge tourists a lot more tho.
Have to say you guys are talking about whisky's i've never even heard of and i tour many of the whisky shops when i'm in their area just in case i can find my Duirach's Own.
I'm learning more about whisky from you guys than i ever could here in Scotland. Thanks guys.

Ahh, the Lagavulin 16 is dead, long live the Talisker!
I really like this one on my quest for smoke!!!! It plays very nicely with Great Lakes Brewing Company's Christmas Ale out of a glass with sugar and cinnamon on the rim, both fitting the bill after some grilled lamb loin chops and sauteed peas and onions!
XM Blues on the stereo, the wife is out of town until Saturday, the band plays out Saturday night for the twenty-third and last time this year, I only have to work a couple more hours tomorrow for this year, then we're going where it's warm for a couple of months after the first, and today I just picked up a couple of months of part-time work for when we get back, doing what I enjoy doing for way too much money. So it's a mighty fine "me" night indeed! Join me!
Did I mention I like this stuff?
Edit: I will miss my band mates and playing, but I'm taking an acoustic bass, a keyboard, and the Harley trike in the enclosed trailer. so I'll have plenty to do and be ready for when I come back.
Edit2: Anybody know of any good jam nights in north central Florida above Ocala?
