I've had quite a week so far and feeling a little run down.

I am just contemplating how nice it is to sit down with a generous pour of Lagavulin 16, and wee splash of water tonight.

There are times when only Lagavulin can hit the spot......

Hey, did you see that Shopper's Vinard has Lagavulin 12 Cask Strength in stock? I had to give that a try, and have a bottle on order.

You shouldn't really drink cask strength neat, it should be diluted with water. Cask strength is usually between 54-56% abv and what's in a 'regular' bottle will be 40-43% abv. How do they reduce it to those levels? Water!

Just think of cask strength as DIY!

Of course the only rule is that there are know rules so drinking neat is ok too!

These were gifts from friends. I'm not much of a drinker, lately.
Both very fine, I did enjoy the Macallan a bit more.

Im normaly over ice either way.

Im not sure about cask strength, theres a few that I have liked, some not so much. Wierd thing, one that I really liked in cask strength, I wasnt to happy with the "normal" type.

Over ice is definitely going to 'chill' the flavor so I'd be interested to see what you thought of the unchilled 'normal'.

The other thing to realise is that the same single malt will vary over years, sometimes it's not noticeable, but in the case when you're switching across a band of abv it's most likely a completely different stock.

That's of course is the greatest thing about Whisky: it's all different even when it's the same! ...And if your looking for regularity then go for a blend, which by the very nature of their composition are less prone to change.

Its really dependent on what Im drinking. Normaly Glenlivet 12, MaCallan lower years, Chivas (blend I know), and glenroth ill drink iced. Glenlivet 15 french, McCallan 15+, fidditch ill drink neat

Really it just sorta the mood, In generall I like a little water/ice though to take some of the edge off.

IMHO, there is no right or wrong way to enjoy whisky, just whatever suits you!

EDIT: Sorry, mixing single malts and carbonated beverages is wrong, but even then I suppose it's whatever floats your boat!

Just in case anyone misses it, but today is St Andrew's day! (St Andrew being the patron saint of Scotland).

Not quite on the scale of St Patrick's day, but I hope you'll join me later (or right now if you'd rather) with your preferred dram and raise your glass to all the Scots and those of Scottish descent: Slainte Mhath!!

Springbank 15 for me; not that will surprise anyone! :D
