Single Malt Scotch!

Link Removed

my god.

so a friend and i were driving home and we popped into a liquor store to have a look. i see these on the shelf, and they're marked $22. they look to me like independent bottling, and at that price even if it ends up being mixed with soda by a friend who cares.

i took home the islay, thinking that it'll at least be peaty, so if its poorly made the peat can make up for that. after one sniff it reminds me of bowmore. after a little research, it is in fact 5 year old bowmore for $22! i actually like this more than the bowmore legend, and its half the price.

i'm annoyed i dont remember where that store was, because if i did i'd go back tomorrow and buy one of each of the other bottles!

highly recommended. if you get a chance to buy a bottle or have a taste, go for it. especially at this price.

McClellan's early bottling line up is my "guilty pleasure" of affordable tasty scotch. Just LOVE the 5 year Bowmore aka McC's Islay.

I try every island scotch that I can but I keep coming back to Talisker 10 as my all time favorite scotch.
As often as I see Talisker 10 mentioned, I'm going to have to give it a try sometime soon.

I didn't care for this one much at first, but it grew on me, and to tell the truth, I almost think I might be liking it more than the Bowmore 18 I have.
Possibly too much oak maybe for my taste.

Anyone interested in an unopened bottle of Bowmore 18? I'm hoping to trade it off, but may sell outright too if I can't find a trade.

Celebrating with a few ounces of Highland Park 18 at the moment. It is Probably my favorite non-smokey single malt.

Celebrating as it looks like I got a job as a research assistant for the summer :D

Grats!

And good call on the HP 18. I been diligently killing off bottles (at a safe pace, no worries!). In fact, I'm finishing off the last of the Laphroaig 10 right now. Thinking it's time to restock, and I think a bottle of HP 18 is definitely on the short list.

Might as well pick up the Laphroaig Quarter Cask if you're not replacing the 10 right away. ;)

My local store has some of my staples on hand, but not much else. So, I recently picked up bottles of Laphroaig 10, Balvenie Double Wood, and Oban 14 to tide me over (still well-stocked with Lagavulin, my "comfort scotch"). I'll definitely keep my eye out for the Quarter Cask, though, thanks.

The Laphroaig 10 is one of my staples as well, along with Ardbeg 10 and Uigeadail, Lagavulin 16, Yoichi 10 and Yamazaki 12.

As much as I read about Balvenie Double Wood, I'm going to have to pick up a bottle and see if it's as good as it seemed last summer.
My apologies if this has been posted and I missed it, but this is a really cool article about Bruichladdich:

Very cool article and long too - I'm going to take a while reading it and shop for a bottle of Bruichladdich when I get back to town.
