Single Malt Scotch!

Nice restocking job, Tom!

On a fun Scotch education note: I have been offering single malt verticals at the bar I manage throughout the winter, and have been introducing folks to this fine world of Scottish spirits as a result. Good times!

Cragganmore 12 has been one of my favorite values in the last few months or so.

She likes the Glen Moray better, but I'm a bigger fan of the Highland Park. They're both pretty decent whiskies, though.

i highly reccomend you seek out the Mcclellands islay. it's a young (~5 years) bowmore. $22 a bottle. i like it more than any bowmore i've ever had! just had a glass last night.

for me, my collection is down to old pulteney 12, laphroaig 10, lagavulin 16, mcclellands islay and speyside. i've got an unopened bottle of evan williams single barrel waiting for summer, a bit left in a bottle of buffalo trace (eh..) and a bottle of rittenhouse rye.

i'm not really much of a bourbon guy, but the rittenhouse and evan williams singles are grey whiskeys.

i need some new single malts to try, though.

any recomendations for a particularly good malt in the springtime? winter and its peaty goodness are on its way out of style in my house (for this year atleast :cool:)

Can't fault McClelland's for the price - just finished my first bottle and plan on getting another soon.

Yamazaki 12 is a very versatile single malt and high on my list of favorites.

I have a bottle of the controversial Spice Tree, which they've sadly stopped producing. It's firmly in the Highlands flavour-wise and is delicious. Had I known the back story and that they were going to stop making it I might not have opened it. Oh well, I'm not a collector so I'll just enjoy it.

To give more details... I don't think of Highland Park as a particularly peaty malt, but then again I do like the really strongly peated malts so it's relative. Less peaty than Talisker, much less than any Islay malt. That being said, there is peat involved (I've seen the distillery in action), just in a relatively subtle way.

The 18... I've only had it once but it's a sweeter, mellower malt than the 12 to my tastebuds.
