THANK GOD FOR LOCAL MEMBERS. neck step is to cut the f-holes in the top, and glue it and the accent to the body, and finish off adding the neck laminates.

k. got a new camera, and still need to install it in the comp. pics being taken, but short upload wait. so i cut the f-holes, then decided that it was too thick around the f-hole area, and took out the router, and went in from the back. had one of those "holy crap, i just got a great idea" things popped into my head, and i took a scrap of bloodwood thin lumber, put it on the back, and really like how there is an amount of spae between the bloodwood under the f-holes, and the flamed maple top. i think i will cut a design throught the bloodwood, like a bass clef or something. went ahead and glued it to the top, and will glue the lower wing top today. upper winger still need f-hole sanded up and every thing.
pics later today. work is going slower than i would want, but i am getting somewhere at least. i found sappy bloodwood for the fingerboard, but it is still coming in the mail (should arrive today, hopefully). i was debating on whether or not to make it a 5 string, because i am getting used to them, but my parts i bought were 4 string. i decided to make it a 33" scale 4 string, and tune it bead. put in carbon rods, tighten up to standard tunning when i need to. if the b is floppy, i will get the next guage set up, to counter it, but i don't think it will be that nessicary. found a set of pups on ebay. GEDDY LEE. i am exited for the project

thanx. the neck is walnut and bloodwood (wn,bw,wn,bw,wn,bw,wn). i don't think the walnut will agree with the maple as well as the bloodwood, so i think i will glue a top onto the neckthrough body area eiter flamed maple, with bloodwood on the sides, sappy bloodwood fb, bloodwood pup covers, and bloodwood adj. bridge; or bloodwood, sappy bloodwood fb, flamed maple covers, bloodwood bridge. what do yo think?

since the teacher was avoiding me today, i only did small detailing work. got the knoted bloodwood shaped to fit inside the body cavity, then glued it. i regret th fact that the other one is not a knotted piece. i think this is the only right place for the knots of the wood, as it adds a cool swirled look when put in place. all i have to do it drill in the design, sand it smooth, and glue the top to the body.
also, didn't win the geddy jazz pups on ebay. just got a sweet deal on a pair of slightly used basslines QP jazz pups. $70 for the set. debating on whether or not to do a pre amp. not very good with electronics. could someone fill be in on all the things i can do with it in passive (like series parralel, ect.), amd the options with a good pre amp. i am still curious of of powerful pickups like quarter pounders will work out in a chambered bass with wooden bridge.

So what do you guys think? 32" or 33" scale? LED lights at the soundholes or no? piezo bridge?
due to budget, i will have to go with a cheaper non-wooden bridge, passive controls, annd no piezo. i guess this is a good idea, because that stuff will cost a lot, and i want to see if the bass is worth it first. luckily those all all bodifications that are wiring only, so no woodwork will be needed to mod them in when the bass is finished.

starting work on the wood covers. i drew up a draft of the inner space and pole pieces. came out well. glued bloodwood on top of walnut. thought the walnut would look good if i snuck it in there. 2marrow i will tape the copies i made of the draft, and drill the pole piece holes, drill most of the waste out, clean it with a router, cut them to size, drill and countersink the adjustment screws, and fine smooth them out.
also possible neck glue up. the maple boards have a bend in them, that i am trying to plane and saw out, then i need to sand and prep the boards.
drilled the pole piece holes, and marked the area to be routed later 2day. unfortinatly, since the pole pieces of quarter pound jazzes are so close, the wood between them got chipped out. not a problem though.

srry no pic update (soon to be). one of the covers broke and has to be remade. the neck was maple with a 7/8" bloodwood core. the maple sides came out uneven somehow. plan is to mark the thinnest area of maple, make all of it that, and reglue more map to thick it back up. glued bloodwood strips to the sides of the wings. qs bloodwood fb coming threw mail. my orginal plan was to glue a flamed maple top to the neck though section, but i found a piece of lightly qulted cherry that caught my eye, instead. i think it isd a good subtle offset to the flamed maple, and will look much better.

)main cmputer is broke, no can't put pics updatesthanx. i do like the design. i am working on my first customer bass. it has a modified shape of this one. should be able to make good progress, because the woodshop teacher said that on monday and tuesday night, 6-9, students could come and work. btw, the original design was fretless
edit: i have not shaped and drilled the head, bought the bridge, or tapered the neck. i have always been curious about 8-string octive basses. i have decided to go on impulse and make this an 8 string. also reconsidering the wooden pup covers, due to the lack of space between the pole pieces of basslines qp j pups.
