I was torn between the Tobacco Sunburst and the Antique White myself - it was a tough call. May have to grab the White Alder next time around unless some of these newer colors start showing up in 5 string version. Gonna hang tight a little while longer and see what pans out. But yes, the Antique White is nice! I like the black knobs on the Sunburst but I really dig the chrome knobs on the White Alder.

Buy the M3 and use the electronics. Consider $299 for a high quality preamp and humbuckers. But once you get ut you may just be blown away and play it.

Haha I thought about that but then yes I thought about how much I'd like to have a jazz bass again and I am a huge fan of pearloid blocks and binding and still don't have a bass with them! A 5 string would be perfect I just don't want it to be over 9.5 lbs at the very most.

That's unfortunately an issue with imported instruments is you're really limited in color choices. I already have a natural and a sunburst basses and I really wasn't digging the black so I went with the white.

Now that is self-control! When mine arrives (hopefully on Wednesday!), I will not be waiting more than the time it takes to close the door, maybe! Depends how cold it is outside.

LOL! It was very hard but worth the wait. I am a beginner and not very good yet, but I could not resist the look of this bass. I have been playing my Fender MIM V Active Jazz. I don't know alot about basses but I know what I like and this Sire blows the MIM (which is a very good bass) out of the water. I have flats on the MIM and will leave the nickle wounds on the V 7. My GAS has been satisfied.

Puff, I love it. It hangs perfectly with a strap, it looks awesome. The sound of the preamp will blow you away. I am not a technical wizard nor am I a professional bass player but I know what a good bass sounds like. You can get any sound you want out of it, but I turn on the preamp and run everything in the middle. I might add a little bass and roll off the treble when playing smooth jazz/modern R&B. It's just an awesome instrument. I like it better than any MIA Fender that I have played at GC.

There's no guarantee on weight. Unfortunately, when a company is trying to supply for this much world wide demand, they can't be picky about the weight of their wood blanks. I expect 9.5lbs to be a bare minimum of what to expect. 10.5 - 11.5 lbs is probably a more reasonable expectation @ this point. Need a wide comfy strap...

Anyone, who is very particular about weight probably needs to be prepared to pay boutique prices. Sire seriously sells a whole lot of bass for an extremely reasonable price, they cannot really keep with demand at their price point. If they start guaranteeing 8.5 lb. basses, we will be looking at a $1,000+ bass.

Hey gang. I thought it might be fun to share some of the settings we've been using on our Sires. Some of us have had our basses for a while and have "our sound", and we have a new group coming in that will surely have fun finding what works for them. I know we all have different amps/cabs but who knows, maybe someone will share some settings that come out as a winner for someone else. Get as detailed as you want. Here's my 3.....

I play a lot of southern/classic/modern rock sprinkled with some blues and country. For most of our stuff I run volume and tone full, p/u's equal and EQ flat with the bass set just past half. Works great for me.

For some country and blues stuff I roll toward the front p/u, roll back the tone some and leave everything else alone.

For the few funky-ish numbers we do, I roll toward the back p/u, full volume and tone, roll mid frequency to lowest setting, boost mids to about 75% and either leave the bass knob flat or give it a slight boost. If it seems a bit crunchy I like using the tone knob to roll off a pinch of highs to tame it down.

Anyhow, these sounds have worked for me over these last several months. Let's hear what the rest of the Sire club are using!!
