Yeah, I posted my fretless naked. I don't recall there being any extra holes.

Thanks, couldn't remember who posted it. Maybe it was just all those pickguard screws, by themselves, that I remember seeing, and not a set for the 'tray. Not sure I'd want to put holes in fresh, unless I could hide them on the 'guard when I took the tray off. I guess they could just be filled by having screws like the other pickguard screws fill them. They should make a tort-head mini screw for that.

Finally got my final setup done on v7 5. DR Fat Beams, 45-130 , action lowered , intonation set. Seem to have one high fret , can't get the C on the A string, 15th fret to not buzz at my preferred and admittedly, low action. Not a big deal though, will take to a tech in the next week and see if he can cure that one small imperfection.
One question for the 4 string players. The neck on the 5 is pretty dadgum chunky. How is the neck profile on the 4 bangers? A buddy here locally has one, but having a hard time hooking up and doing the pass around thing. Considering selling my MM Sterling f'less and grabbin a v7 4 and v7 4 f'less. If the neck on the 4 is as chunky as the 5 , I may not want to go that route. I like my 4's skinny . Bottom line, does it feel like a 4 string jazz , or more like a precision? Thanks!

Neck on the 4 is not chunky, and definitely a jazz-style neck. I know what you mean, to an extent, about the 5 string necks, my V7 five string is the first five I've had but I don't particularly think it is chunky except that it's a fiver. Same here, definitely one of the chunkiest 5'ers I've played/owned. But it still feels good to me after a short adjustment period. I think a couple of 4's are probably in my near future. It just seems silly not to pick a couple of them up!

When my Music Man SR5 was my main bass I remember picking up a G&L 1500 or whatever the model # was and was expecting it to feel similar to it and was surprised how much thicker the neck was and I was glad I had bought the SR5 instead. Now if that only had a wider fretboard and string spacing I would have kept it, but that's another classic TB debate Jim

I've owned many different 5 strings too. The Sire neck felt familiar right away.
My favorite neck was on a Smith CR5 unfortunately I couldn't get used to the body style, then there's Warwick, I've always been a fan of their sound, I could never bond with the chunky necks.

Yeah it's all relative, I always hated Warwicks because of their necks. My tastes run more toward the wider thinner styles, Pedulla, Lakland 55-94, my Fbass which has the perfect neck for my hands, it's whatever someone is used too. I guess I was surprised with the Sire because so many compared it to the US Fenders and it is a lot thicker than any American Standard 5 that I have played which has a more comfy neck in my opinion, more toward my personal preference. If we leave cost aside, and it's hard to being the incredible bargain the Sire is, and the Sire was the same price as an American Standard and they were both in a store, not sure I would have walked out with it, probably would have gotten the Fender and bought an out board pre, Aguilar, Sadowsky, or whatever to punch up the sound. I'm not knocking the V7, it's a great bass, but everything in life is about preferences, and mine is for a different neck profile. Jim

Just got the email that my order completed! Faster than I thought too, I ordered on the 3rd this month. I'm psyched! Hope I get one with no QC issues and I hope that string spacing isn't too much for me. The neck on the 4 string is like a Fender jazz 4 neck right? In terms of thickness and whatnot?

The string spacing at the bridge is wider than a Fender 4 string, 20mm compared to 19mm. Don't know how that would translate to the neck spacing, probably no difference. It's sort of weird that they chose a wider than 19mm for the 4 strings but went for 18 mm for the 5 strings.

Hopefully 1 mm is too small for my brain to register ha and maybe I won't mind the gloss neck (I usually like satin) either way, it's a lot of bass for the money, I just want that preamp!!

The pre amp kills. They should seriously consider an outboard pre so if you already have a bass you prefer you can cop the sound like Sadowsky and Fbass do with their outboard pre amps.

I'd honestly probably buy one for every one of my basses based just on the features, they're just what I want.

Just buy a M3 and use the electronics or pre amp. Figure your spending 299 for the pre amp. Its the same as the v7.

Thanks for that, I was wondering what they would do for duty coming up north.

Especially crappy as UPS tends to rape us at the border, even when you ship over to the US.
Canada post and USPS are usually more reasonable.

The East Uni-pre is very much like the pre- in the V7's in terms of features and tone control w/ a sweepable mid... I have one in a different bass. But, they are expensive as all get out-- $350 new. I think someone has an East Retro pre for sale here for $160, I think it is pretty similar.

Yeah, package it for retrofit and I'd start using it in my build projects over the OPB-3, actually. The latter can do sweepable mids, but you have to try pretty hard (custom order pots).
