As per ups, delivery will be tomorow. I was all excited until i called ups for the duty charges, 173$. Now im not that excited. I hope its worth the 820$ canadian its costing me

Recently I had a chance to play one of the four string V7's and was really impressed.
Question; anyone put a Hipshot D-tuner on one yet? If so, is there one that is a direct retrofit?

That's a bite, but not quite as bad as it sounds to us in the US... that equates to $120 US import duty and $565 US total price.
Not to worry-- I think this bass compares well to basses costing upwards of $2,190 CAD!
Once it's in your hands, I think you'll feel much better about it.
So, the website lists a chrome pickup cover comes on the 4 strings. I don't think I have seen a pic with one on it. What gives?

Looks great! That's the exact one I ordered (set to arrive on Thurs). That height on the knobs may be normal. But I'm sure someone else has chimed in before me in the thread... Congrats on the nice bass!

Especially crappy as UPS tends to rape us at the border, even when you ship over to the US.

One below the control plate, one above. On each pot adjust the lower nut to your preferred height. Put the upper one on, install knobs.
Yeah, they're an acquired taste. I had one on my Fender Marcus bass and a few others but didn't like it.
My plan was (is?) to go as retro as possible, and put the ashtray on, and put flats on it. However, I notice that the pick guard does not have holes drilled for the pickup cover, so I guess if you want to put the ashtray on, you have to work for it. You apparently have to take the 'guard off, figure out how to make the prospective holes match exactly with the actual holes in the body, and re-attach. I may be too lazy for that. I often use the neck pickup as my thumb position, so it would probably be weird anyway. Kinda wish I could just order a tort 'guard with pre-drilled holes. Then I could use it with the ashtray until I got tired of it, then put the old, no-pickup-cover-hole pickguard back on.
Chinjazz, let me know how you think the Sire and Fender MM stack up against each other, once your arrives Thursday. My Fender MM is my main 4-string, heretofore. Funny that we not only both ordered the same retro vibe Sire, but also both have (or had?) Fender MM's.
Removing the pickguard shouldn't really be necessary though - I've always just laid the cover over the pickup and made sure the alignment was just right (mark the holes with a sharpie or what have you, drill a small pilot hole into the guard) and finally drill it down. I usually don't fully tighten the 1st screw all the way down - this way the pickup cover can swing like its on a hinge just in case I need to make a slight adjustment before I drill the 2nd pilot hole.

That was a cool plan. Sorry it all didn't exactly work out. I've thought of a different "hide" idea in the past to find a neat chrome plug or tack kind of insert that would go in the two vacant holes after removing the tray. Heck just put in a few chrome screws and it would be un-noticible-ish.
Unfortunately I won't be able to compare with the Femder MM directly b/c I no longer have one, but my memory is decent enough (even though they're completely different woods), so I'll try..
I am not sure how you'd know when the alignment was right since the holes in the body are covered by the pick guard, can't align them if you can't see them. I am assuming there are holes already in the body. Somebody posted their fretless, sans pickguard, and I recall it had ashtray holes (I think). I guess I could go back and find that photo and confirm.
Perhaps the holes are from having the tray installed already. Are the holes drilled in the body (pre-drilled)?
I may have to take it off and look. I just assumed the photo of that fretless showed pre-drilled holes... he was Jaco-ing it (tobacco burst fretless) so it seemed doubtful that if he was taking the pick guard off for that, he'd have been drilling special holes for an ashtray.
