I agree with that to an extent - it is definitely an incredible preamp but the passive tone is absolutely fantastic by itself, which I would have to attribute to other factors such as the pickups & the quality of the build, the build design (3 piece bodies, HMB, etc). What I love most about the preamp (apart from the tonal abilities) is that it is just a transparent extension of the passive tone & can take that tone to new levels. But yes, its a very strong selling point to me after having experienced the Heritage-3 preamp. But still, I think I would still be very satisfied with a passive version of the V7 even if they didn't have the awesome preamp.
I have experimented with a couple of things on my Zoom B3 just in case a "what if" scenario should happen on a gig (batteries die, preamp fails) and I have gotten pretty close to the onboard tone but not quite exact. There's a certain purity of tone that is hard for me to nail down - perhaps due to the 18v headroom, hard to say. I would much rather have the preamp than not. Perhaps Sire will eventually market a standalone pre after all is said & done and sales have leveled off for a while - but that could be quite some time or may never pan out.

I'm taking a couple of days away from it to let a nerve in my neck settle down and slowly work back into it hoping that my bad neck will slowly get used to the different hang angle on a strap. I may have just played it to much , 3-4 hours a day, since day one, it's hard not to
It's weird, no problems with my F or the 55-02 that I sold, no nerve issues with them, not sure whats going on, we'll see. JimOn Facebook Mickey made a comment that a big name manufacture approached Sire to build basses for them, what's your guess who that might have been? Fender?, maybe to have a lineup between the MIM and US? I noticed at Sweetwater they have lowered the price of the American Deluxe by $300.00 for the 5 string. Maybe Fender is starting to feel the heat. Jim

Wishing you luck with the issues it's causing you - perhaps as you say, maybe it's just the way most J style instruments hang on a strap. If it weren't for already having the same 5 string color/combo, I'd be making you an offer if you were looking to move it.

In addition to huge price drops as Jim mentioned, I think i saw a very recent addition of an active/passive switch to the AM Deluxe model that I don't ever recall being there since the get go.

Don't know if its been mentioned or not yet - but with all these tort guard bass pics being posted recently (mine included) I can't help but notice that the same print is happening on all the tort guards. All the little dark spots, etc in all the same spots - they are all the same print. Nothing wrong with it - just noticed it though.

Just tough to pick when you only have 4 colors to choose from. I already have a natural and a sunburst bass and black is just overdone and I haven't had a white bass in almost 30 years so that won out.
All the specs, inc prices are now up for the M7. 35" neck for the 5 string, at last.
