Price wise, you're probably correct. I wouldn't worry about any brightness; if you go with the Alder/Rosewood model it's pretty even. Ash/Maple is a little brighter in my opinion. The good news is (like some other people have said) if you buy it and hate it, you'll have absolutely no problem selling it for near what you paid.

It felt great and I dug the EMG preamp in it. He was willing to go super low on it, but I clutched and someone else bought it. Oh well.

It does seem like the Sires are keeping their value. With as many as people seem to have purchased, they are not common on the secondary market.

Yeah that EMG preamp is awesome. I have the old EMG BT circuit in mine and I love it. I thought about swapping it out for the HAZ preamp, but I just fell in love with the sound I've got after all these years. I'd post links but don't want to junk up a Sire thread with Spector videos. :P

It seems to me that people are buying up Sires on the secondary market because the guarantee of faster-than-30-day shipping is alluring. Mine took over 30 days to get to me; I would've happily bought a gently used one that I could've had in a few days. Not to mention, the figuring on the Ash is often hit or miss... some people get very unfortunate figuring that looks awkward and it makes them unhappy, so to be able to see the figuring beforehand (especially on a natural finish) is a big plus (to me at least). Of course I also trust my own setups more than I trust the setups of others, so paying the premium for new was worth it to know I'd be the only one to touch it.

That said, I saw some goofball asking $1000 for a $400 instrument, which was ridiculous. For the most part I see the Ash 4-strings selling for $400, which is a nice discount over new. I'd planned to sell mine to a buddy for exactly what I paid if I hated it (I'd just lose the shipping cost). Unluckily for him, I'll never sell it. It fits too nicely into the arsenal (and really, it just looks so fantastic).

Are replacement pick guards available from Sire, or is there a know resource that sells a "drop in" replacement pickguard for the Sire V7s?

I'm good with most of the body and neck combos, but I don't like their pick guard choices.

Speaking from memory... some people who have had issues (busted tuners, bad nut, etc.) end up getting pickguards with their replacement parts (I think I've heard about gold and chrome). But Sire will NOT sell you any accessories like that (which I do not understand).

Your best bet would be a place like wdmusic; they'll make you whatever you want if you send them a tracing of the pickguard. Prices depend on material, but are usually like... $30-$70.

I have a gold one for sale. It's for a 5 string...but I've been told that it will also fit a 4 string.

The replacement tuners topic hasn't been resolved yet to my knowlege. I've been researching it quite a bit and it looks to me like the Hipshot HB1 tuners (should) be a direct drop in replacement, although the HB5 looks VERY similar as well. As far as a DTuner/Xtender key, I think the Hipshot BT1 will fit as a direct replacement. *NOTE* - I am NOT 100% sure on any of this but they look to be the closest thing to drop in replacements for Sire V7's.

You think that's off, imagine my reaction when I saw someone selling a V7 5 string for DOUBLE that price. I have no idea if it sold and at the moment I can't remember where I saw the listing. I am shocked some people are trying to take advantage of everything Sire stands for. Great instruments at affordable prices. Obviously some of these sellers didn't get that memo. smh...
