Do the 2nd gen 5'ers have carbon fiber reinforcements!? If that's the case i'm ordering a P7 5 right away. Does this also include the V3?

I cannot swear to this in court, but: the 1st generation 5-string V7's and P7's and M7's (all Sire 5's per their site) had the carbon fiber reinforced rods in the neck, and since it's not listed as a "change" from 1st generation to 2nd generation (the Sire website details differences between 1st and 2nd), I would assume (risky I know) that this feature is unchanged going into the 2nd generation.
Verbiage on their website, post-introduction of the 2nd Gen, still says "all" Sire 5-strings have it: "Sire's 5 string bass guitars are made with Double Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Rods. 5 string bass guitars tend to have weak neck binding structures due to strong string tensions. For this reason, many high-end 5 string basses are made with Carbon Rods. Therefore, to maintain neck stiffness and stability, two carbon rods are applied to all Sire's 5 string bass guitars. We call this Double Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Rod."
As with anything, probably best get confirmation directly, and to contact Mickey Cho at Sire USA and ask.

No way that the 1st gen 5'ers have carbon in the neck. I own a V7 and i've tried out a M7 (both 1st gen) and i can just tell that there's no carbon in those necks.
Hm, well, they certainly claim there is. If you don't trust that it's true for Gen 1 when they claim it, I don't know if I'd trust that it is on Gen 2.
The carbon comment only seems to be on the 2nd gen products. There's no mention of it on the 1st gen products now that i looked
Good point, I just looked as well. While the text says "all Sire five string basses" have it, you're correct that the diagram/images/info on the reinforced necks only appears in the Gen 2 descriptions, and not in the Gen 1 description. So, I guess, hopefully, all Gen 2 five-strings have it, in which case the P7 Gen 2 must have it. If you order one, let us know what you determine re: the reinforcement rods.
You'd think that this difference would make their "table of improvements" which shows what the Gen 1's had versus what the Gen 2 has for items that are different... but no mention there. I can see why you'd be confused about it. It does, IMO, seem to say that Gen 2 has the rods.
Yeah it's kind of odd that they do not make it a bigger point. A carbon reinforced neck is a tremendous thing

According to Sire they have improved quality of the tuners om the 2. Gen.
The tuners on my V7 Vintage Gen 2 are noticeably smother that those on my V7 Vintage Gen 1.
The V7, 4-string, gen1, in Natural/Ash I bought arrived last week. I absolutely love the feel and sound. I'm so happy with it, that I just ordered a P7, gen1, in White/Alder. Some really good prices on remaining gen 1 basses if you shop around. I love the 7.5" neck radius on a 4, but would want the 9.5" on a 5-string.
I'll report back after I've played the P7 for a bit. Plan on going to Hipshot 1/2" Ultralights when/if I have trouble with the originals. So far no bridge issues and the V7 intonated perfectly.
Also, I've had to do less setup work on the V7 than any bass I've owned, which is very surprising to me.

Yup, I'v been very tempted by some of the 1. gens still available out there.
One of them shops here in Denmark still has a 5-string V7 Vintage alder in tobacco sunburst available for just under $550.drool
The only thing that make me hesitate (besides not needing new bass right now, and having lots of other things to spend my money on), is that a 1. gen VV7 5-string could turn out to be a very heavy beast.
My V7 has proven to be quite stable in terms of setup.
It broke a tuner some weeks ago, and while I fiddled about with that, I took the strings off (a set of almost brand new Super Slinky's) and put on an old set of D'Daddario's that I use as spares instead. That made the setup go very much awry, the action became 1-2 millimeters higher, the neck relief was off... probably due to the D'Daddario's having a different tension. But I didn't bother to alter the setup to match the spare strings.
Then today I recieved the new replacement tuner. I put it on, put the new Slinky-strings back on again and wham! - the setup was back to perfect again!
So, how big an issue do most people feel the knobs are? I had to push the bottom of my stacked knobs down a little, but otherwise they work. Is it actually worth the $40 to swap them out with EMG knobs?

my biggest beef with the knobs is that if I'm not careful with how I'm packing my gear, any weight on the bass when it's in the gig bag will push the top knob of the stacked knobs down and make it so I can't turn them or they are really stiff. It's a very minor annoyance, but I do wonder if the constant pushing and pulling on those knobs will eventually translate to pot failure. I have no idea how sturdy the pots are. I should probably replace them with knobs that actually screw on.
The knobs on my 2nd gen V3 weren't a problem, but I replaced them with the ones in the links below. They don't actually do anything special, but they definitely look and feel better. I was able to get all the originals off w/o damage, so I can always put them back on.

I changed the knobs and the bridge, it made the bass a better bass setting intonation.
If you're going to change the knobs to screw, cut an old credit card to size to fill the space on the spindle, that saves breaking the spindle.
