I was wondering the same thing

Sire has confirmed on their facebook that the 1. Gen 5-strings does indeed have carbon reinforced necks.

So, how big an issue do most people feel the knobs are? I had to push the bottom of my stacked knobs down a little, but otherwise they work. Is it actually worth the $40 to swap them out with EMG knobs?

It doesn't worth the change. I have done a very simple trick to avoid the upper knob getting down: put a very small piece of cork in the whole, et voila.

But, if I was going to change the knobs I would chose ones with a clear mark to see how is my setting at any moment.

I kept the styrofoam piece that surrounds the knobs when shipped and place it over the knobs each time I put my V7 in the gig bag. Just an idea...

I changed the knobs and the bridge, it made the bass a better bass setting intonation.
If you're going to change the knobs to screw, cut an old credit card to size to fill the space on the spindle, that saves breaking the spindle.

Those knobs look good and are narrow enough to give good space between them. Can you tell me what kind they are and where you got them?

Are they the ones crammit442 got from Amazon?

Hello Bob, well I got them on ebay from China.
They come in a set of two and are concentric knobs, now what I did was, I ordered 3 sets, you use 3 of the small knobs for the treble, bass and pickup selection and then the concentric knobs for volume/treble and Mid/sweep. that leaves you with 3 spare bottoms from concentric sets. I hope you can make this out lol. Oh one last thing I had to mark the tops of each knob with a small drill bit, not too deep, just as a marker. Here is the Ebay link, I hope it works out for you.

All these new Sires are tempting! I wouldn't mind one of the new P7 five strings. I'll have to stick with my original though. Had it on the gig last weekend and it sounded great as always. I've had it for 3 years and 8 months now....hard to believe.

Ive got a gen 1 V7, had it since they first came out, but havent used it for a couple of years. I got it out last night and had a really fun time. As i normally use a P bass ive just ordered a gen 2 P7 5 strng in TS/maple.

Cani ask if the Ash basses are generally lighter or heavier than the Alder? My V7 is Alder and weighs around 10.5lbs. The weight is not really a problem, I'm just wondering. For reference my P-Bass is just under 8lbs.

I think ash tends to run slightly heavier than alder, but they're normally fairly close, typical weight ranges mostly overlap...

The P7 runs about a pound lighter than the V7 due to the smaller body so you should be ok...

My 1st Gen P7 5 alder is 9.5 lbs I was expecting a heavier bass after reading some of the postings on this thread.

Some time ago the customer base began complaining about the weight of the basses that were getting delivered. Sire listened and started building with lighter weight woods. (at least that's what I heard!)

I asked the shop where I bought my Sire V7 Vintage Gen 2 to weigh all 5 basses they had in stock. They weighed from 8lb 13oz to 9lb 14oz. Big difference. I got them to send me the light one.

I bought a Fender Marcus Miller that weighs 10lb 2oz. I thought that was going to be too heavy but it has such good balance (no neck dive) that I can wear it for hours with a good wide padded strap. The Sire actually had a bit of neck dive so I'm wondering if a slightly heavier one would be better as the body weight may prevent neck dive. It's not a big issue and I would never have noticed it if I hadn't compared it to the Fender.

I think my ideal weight is about 9lb 6oz.

Thanks for the replies. Ive have no issues with my alder V7 5, but it is noticeable when I'm carrying it more than playing it.
Cant wait for Monday to come around. The last 5 string P bass I had was a Fender MIA P5 when they first came out. Nice bass but I never liked the neck.

My P7-5 made of Alder with Ebony Fretboard is exactly 4,4kg of Weight, which is 9,7lbs, when i am right. Quite normal for a Longscale 5-String i guess.

I tried ( in a Little music shop ) a p7 1st génération, i really liked it but i was wondering if i should buy the second gen instead ? (He don't have the second gen, and i think he'd like to sell the 1st gen... So i would have to order it online). What do you think about this dilemna ?

I ordered a 2nd gen V3, but received a 1st gen by mistake. I returned it and got the 2nd gen (and it is more refined), but the 1st gen was also very nice and I could've easily been happy with it. I don't think you can go wrong with either, especially if the price is right.
