If you use a multimeter, put a cable I the jack of the bass and measure with the battery in place and the pre on. Battery checkers do have resistors in them to simulate a load. The voltage you measure under load might be different and is a truer measure of how the battery is holding up.

Can't help with that one, the Ibanez looks like a really nice bass, but I don't know anything about it, I've never played that model. I'm guessing it's probably passive. Ibanez definitely has made and still makes some great basses. I have a few myself, I was just going on about my RB950 in another thread. I do have an old old SR 6 string, nice enough bass, but comparing that against Sire, I'd go with Sire. This Ibby you found might be completely different though.

Can't choose for you. :)

Good looking bass, congrats! I have a fret-less black alder coming my way at some point in time and can't wait. I dig that color combination. My order is coming up on 3 weeks and will probably be 3 to 5 more weeks. :banghead: :rollno:

But I know it will be worth the wait.:thumbsup:

Thanks to Stingray69, I got to play a V7 today, and it is as good as advertised. The preamp is unreal! I was able to pretty much nail Marcus Miller's slap tone from the moment I picked it up. Miller's input on the preamp is obvious. I can officially say that unless you think the ash is too pretty to resist, save your money and buy an alder bass. The alder is already maxed out on the aggressive modern sound. Stingray69 likes his action lower than me, so I could not dig in like I do on my own basses, but I am sure that the V7 tonally is better than an American Fender Jazz Deluxe.
That said, I like the feel of the DJ5 neck better, and I love its powerful passive tone. I am going to get a DJ5 or maybe a Carvin JB5 first because of the neck and feel of the 19mm spacing since I can afford it. That said, I will sneak a V7 past the Missus one day next year!:bassist:

It was my pleasure Doc - it was good to see you again & always good to get feedback from other bassists on the Sire! Wish I had thought to ask you about string height - I believe both the truss & bridge allen wrenches were in the case, we could have made some adjustments. We'll have to have a GTG up at Mojo's after you decide on either of those basses - have a bass fest! :thumbsup:

That is exactly why I bought the alder/rw, to distance myself a little from the hyper sizzle sound. Somebody told me once if I ever bought a Sadowsky Metro get the alder/rw because he felt the ash/maple was a little too aggressive to be an "all rounder" workhorse, and it sounded like the Sire was maybe in that same camp. Even though the Sire is 18mm the neck looks to be nice and wide. Did you try out the passive mode? Jim

Like I said, the action was too low for a heavy handed player like me. The passive tone was good, but I did not dig in like I normally would.

I found that the action is too low as well. I hope to improve the playability by raising it up a bit. It seems like the fretboard is not high enough to create the gap I need between the pickguard and the strings. I don't have mongous hands but it seems like it's set up for a smaller handed player.

That may be, but the overall dimensions seem equal to a typical Fender Jazz V.
