Thanks to Stingray69, I got to play a V7 today, and it is as good as advertised. The preamp is unreal! I was able to pretty much nail Marcus Miller's slap tone from the moment I picked it up. Miller's input on the preamp is obvious. I can officially say that unless you think the ash is too pretty to resist, save your money and buy an alder bass. The alder is already maxed out on the aggressive modern sound. Stingray69 likes his action lower than me, so I could not dig in like I do on my own basses, but I am sure that the V7 tonally is better than an American Fender Jazz Deluxe.
That said, I like the feel of the DJ5 neck better, and I love its powerful passive tone. I am going to get a DJ5 or maybe a Carvin JB5 first because of the neck and feel of the 19mm spacing since I can afford it. That said, I will sneak a V7 past the Missus one day next year!
