Exactly what I was going to say. I'll slap a little on my low B so
I experimented with different gauge B strings until I finally settled on .130 DR Fatbeams.

I like the fat beams, also hi beams.

I don't slap, but my fretted V7 B is a DR DDT .145, and I tell you, it's among the best Bs I've played, including 35"ers. I did kind of "up gauge" the DDTs, they're meant for downtuning, I tuned them up to normal pitch to get the extra tension. Not only helped the B, but the E and A are awesome as well.

Good point to get the tension up with up gauging. Do you tune too A 432?
I gotta say that what I've heard so far was impressive!

No problem chinjazz, I'm pretty anal about the tone and feel on my low b, it me a few tries to get it to my liking, although it sounded pretty good out of the box with the OEM strings but they were nickle and I'm a stainless steel guy so I switched.
Lol...Alain is pretty dope.

I've gone back and forth between steel and nickel but mainly on the Dunlop super bright nickel lately.
Yeah what Alain did on that Cd was Jaco/Rocco with some modern slap tossed in. He is the dope supreme.

I feel the B on the V7 is better tension-wise than the Fender American Deluxe V I owned and at least every bit as good as the 2008 Fender American Standard 5 I had (which iirc was the year Bass Player Mag declared Fender finally got a B string "right" on a fiver). I cannot speak to whether the tension will be suitable for those doing heavy slapping on the B because its rare i would do so. But the tension is good by all other measures in my book. The tone is more powerful than either MIA Fenders I owned. It can get a powerful, room filling, mean tone in active mode - in this regard, its the best I've heard on a jazz bass styled instrument that I've owned.

I like that the active tone with everything flat basically is the passive tone - no "color" to the preamp at all that I can hear.

Well i hope the fretless 5 i ordered last week says Indonesia on the back. Have two others...a 4 and the recent 5 which arrived approximately 3 weeks ago. Both were from the Indonesia factory and both are awesome! Don't know who they hired to do the work in China but the folks in the Indonesia factory are doing some amazing work and this will most likely complete my Sire purchases. Hope this fretless comes from Indonesia!

So far from the few MIC V7's that guys have received I can't tell them apart from Indonesian ones.
China does have good manufacturing facilities too, so I wouldn't be concerned if my Sire was made there.
Heck even the MIC Fenders I've seen are nice.
