I have those exact strings on a p-bass I built a year ago. I really like them.

I opted for traditional rounds on my PB, Rotosound SB 66.
Actually, I got it mixed up. I have two precision basses. One is the aforementioned project from last summer. It has rounds on it. The other is a Fender Deluxe PJ bass (the color is called sea foam pearl). That's the one with the Ernie Ball flats.
Just bought one of these a month or two ago and love it. I'm using Labella LTF's strung from the bridge. I sold a Fender precision four string to finance it and I'm glad I did. Roasted maple with rolled edges and rosewood make for a very comfortable neck.
Someone was asking about the neck PU only on a P7 and how it compares to a regular Precision. I found this on youtube:

Hello, and thanks for all your help. Sorry if this post is in the wrong place. I've got a few questions about the Sire P8,5 string fretless. What is the thickness of the neck at the 1st and 12th fret? Also, how well does the coated fingerboard hold up to half wound strings? I know there will be wear,(my poor teqn). Trying to decide between the exceptional value of the Sire, or the Ibanez EHB 1005F. Anyways, thanks for all your help, it's greatly appreciated. Everyone take care.
My replacement V7 arrived yesterday. It's perfect. Sweetwater initially told me it would be late April to early May, but this one came in and the person in line in front of my apparently changed their mind.
And I'm already browsing the V5 fretless options on Thomann.

Do you know if Sire's v7 pick guards are hot swappable with fender jazz guards? Or are they not that same standard size/spacing?
I have a Lakland P and the guard is off by enough that I can't get a guard that isn't custom made to replace the one it came with. Hope that's not also the case on the Sire?

What color did you get? I originally ordered a white V7 but decided to get the V5 instead of waiting for the V7.
The V7 is Lake Placid blue. Same exact color as the original that came that didn't work when in active mode (I'm guessing the preamp was bad). I was willing to wait if needed for that color specifically. I was pleasantly surprised when my Sweetwater rep called me on Thursday. He had updated me just the night before, saying it was looking like late April at the earliest. But the guy who had reserved one before I did changed his mind. It was at my house by Saturday.
I don't have a fretless, at least not anymore. Had one a long time ago but sold it when times were tough. I found a V5 on Thomann. The price is actually less than any US retailers even with shipping. And it's in stock now, whereas no one here seems to have them currently. So I took a shot. It says I should have it by Wednesday, which would be crazy fast coming from Europe. That one is sunburst. I like the vintage look of it and figured it would fit in nice with the trio I play with a few times per month at a local bar.
I don't think they are. Even if the screw holes line up, the cutout for the truss rod adjustment isn't deep enough on the Fenders.
You can buy Sire pickguards from Boston Music through Thomann, though shipping costs more than the guard. Bass Mods pickguards are supposed to fit Sires, but I don't think they have much in stock right now.
I ordered some from AliExpress that should arrive in a week or two, I'll let you know how they fit. I ordered 3 different colors, so I might sell the ones I don't keep in the classifieds.
thanks for the heads up. thomann tort looks petty good. may bite that bullet.
I had WD Custom Pick Guards make me a couple...contacted them and then sent them a tracing of the original. It took a couple of weeks but it was a perfect fit. I think they cost me around $65 each. Nice quality. I had them make them out of brown tort.

FYI, their website says they aren't talking custom orders at this time. Looks like they'll start again in June.

I wonder if they are either overwhelmed with orders or having a hard time getting help these days as many companies are these days. I also know that when I ordered mine, I couldn't order what I really wanted, red tort as they were out of stock and they weren't getting any in for months.
Their website says it's to allow them to get caught up on orders. I looked into it just to see how much a different color pickguard for my V5 might be.
Probably just a supply issue, most likely they get their materials from China and there could be some serious back log on that still.
I could of course be totally wrong, but this seems to be the case for many small businesses that need imported raw materials.
It's been true about Sire for most of the time they have been in existence - they sell them faster than they can build them. Remains true today, even with (especially with) the new 6 string guitar line.
