I just went through this myself for a project for a show band. I needed a base in a certain color and didn't want to go too expensive on the bass. A p5 won me over due to the neck.

Yes, Sires Have the best neck slightly second to my Fender American Pro Jazz bass. The Fender barely won out due to it's Narrow front to back depth and Flat D shape of the neck. The neck on my G&L USA Fullerton LB-100 is very nice too. The Tribute neck is no slouch but the Sire Beats it with the neck. Sires are great basses. I especially love my Sire P7 2nd Gen with TI Jazz Flats on it. I like the sound of the P7 over the Fender American Pro. If push came to shove and I could keep only two basses it would be the 2016 Custom Built Fullerton G&L and the Sire P7. Prior to getting the Sire P7 , I thought nothing could knock the Fender American Pro Jazz out of the fold.

I would like to keep the same strings factory , (Even if there the same gauge, and brand I use)
Sire website states, "Daddario Nickle rounds. 45_.100).
Will a short scale set be long enough, to run the strings through the body..??

Do you know if the Daddario rounds have the silks at the same place as the Chromes do? If they do I don't think stringing through the body will work - the silks would start on before you get to the nut. Here are SS Chromes on U5, not strung through body:

No silk on my Daddario rounds ,for my Aria short scale...

Only one Fender I liked the Stock pickups on and that was a First year 2011 Fender American Special Jazz and the Rolled edges just awesome. BUT the Tuners were typical Vintage style crappy binding style. The Sire P7 is ALL AROUND great! Everything on the 2017 American Pro Jazz is great stock EXCEPT the pickups

Do you know if the Daddario rounds have the silks at the same place as the Chromes do? If they do I don't think stringing through the body will work - the silks would start on before you get to the nut. Here are SS Chromes on U5, not strung through body:

D'Addario Rounds do not have silk on either end.

Too much silk on either end? You can easily fix that with a lighter.

I totally removed the silk on my B string on my P7 on a set of flat wounds, it wouldn't fit through the hole in the bridge. No biggie.

Top load hole in the bridge. There was a reason (I can't remember what it was) that I couldn't use string-through which is what I wanted. They were Dunlop flats, if that makes a difference. It was a P7 1st gen, which might make a difference.

I've heard it said several times here that it's bad to string flats through the body because bending them that much starts to distort the windings, leading to premature string degradation. Can't confirm or deny, I don't use flats anywhere except one piezo bass that doesn't have the through-body option.

I suspect the reason I didn't do string-through was because the package explicitly said not to. That said, if it *did* do that, I wouldn't be too upset anyways, strings last a while anyways.

I've seen this mentioned in some other threads, too. There are some flats designed for string thru, I don't know which, but TB is a good place to look.

Question- can I replace pickups in my V5 with pickups from a V7? I bought a V5 used and one of the pickups is shot for whatever reason.

I'm trying to use the search feature, but can't find any info regarding practical differences between V7 and V5 pickups.

I do know that V7 pickups work (very well) in a V3. Guess that doesn't answer the question... but I found out for myself that V7 pickups are richer somehow than the V3. Hard to define but it just feels fuller.

So I seem to have fallen in love with my P10...and the rolled edges on the neck..and I am contemplating one of these V3s...I am a big fan of matching headstocks and the Sonic Blue don't hurt my feelins none
I think there's a NBD headin my way!

La Bella Flats are available in two versions: string-through and normal. However, I have no clue what is the difference. I only use flats on my NS Radius (La Bella low tension flats). But the NS Radius is a headless bass and has a unique kind of bridge.

I have had TI Jazz flats Strung thru the body on my Fender American Pro Jazz bass now for about 4 years with no issues and now on my Sire P7. The reason I do this is it makes them feel a little less floppy. I once had LaBella flats as previously stated I strung top load as the package warned not to string thru the body.
