The stock U5 P/Us seem to be way better than the 'whateverbuckers' that came with my Gretsch G2220 (I have a set of TV Jones Thunderblades on order to fix that).
I did have to send my U5 back to SW when I first got it because the bridge P/U was dead. No signal at all. Sent it back, they fixed it up, and all is good now.

To my ears...
These pickups ,or electronics lack oomph.
When I ..A/B compare with my cheap Aria with its P pickup. I have to turn the volume down on my Aria.

DiMarzio DP126BK Model P+J Bass Pickup Set | Reverb

The Pots and cap in my V5 (Standard Jazz Configuration) are the same electronically as the ones that came in my Fender American Pro Jazz so no difference there. The pickups in the V5 are a little more upper end than Fender's but all I did was to add a Fender S-1 I had from the Fender American Pro Jazz before I put an Audere 4 band pre-amp in it. Putting the V5 in series is actually better than it was in the Fender American Pro Jazz as not only does it add oomph but has the ability to be a little less dark and thus has better clarity at the same time. I am very happy with this change. My P7 P/J having Active capability is so perfect as is stock. Having said this, I do not know how the P/J would do with series mode.

No the wiring harness is stock. It doesn't need upgrading in my opinion.

Have you checked with a multimeter? ,how hot are those pickups, compared with the factory Sire pickups?? If you happen to have done it already..

The knobs worked. The non stacked ones required some slight modifications, as they were just a hair too tight and I didn't want to force anything. But a few seconds of drilling did the trick. Removing the plastic knobs was actually easier than I was anticipating. You'll notice the texture of the stacked vs non stacked is slightly different, but hardly noticeable. This definitely looks and feels like an upgrade.

Forgive the poor quality photos. What I lack in photography skills I make up in bass ability and science knowledge (I'm a biology teacher.)

Cant tell difference in the knobs by photo so mustn't be much. Looks good! Because my P7's knobs are on a red tort pickguard I decided to leave them alone as they look good as is.

They have a higher output, in part because there are bigger magnets in the Dimarzio set.

Dimarzio state the DC resistance of a Model P is 11.54 k ohms. That isn't unusually high for a P pickup, and reinforces why you shouldn't use DC resistance as a straight proxy for output.

Sire website states, "Daddario Nickle rounds. 45_.100).
Will a short scale set be long enough, to run the strings through the body..??

It reads as hot, but you will find pickups in early '60s P Basses with a higher DC resistance still.

Darn it. My V7 is already going back to Sweetwater. I finally had time to sit down and play it today and I discovered that the active setting wasn't working correctly. Basically, I had little to no sound when switched to active. And, yes, I tried new batteries. Fortunately, returns with them are easy. But the bass is currently on backorder, so looks like I'll be waiting a few weeks for my replacement.

That's unfortunate to hear. FWIW, there's a trimpot inside to adjust the active output to that of passive mode, could it be this trim pot was improperly set?
