+1 on Thomann. I've done this exact same thing with a different instrument which wasn't in stock elsewhere. No problems. Although I've heard tell they aren't wild about overseas returns, but that's just from a game of telephone so I can't confirm it.

I returned an U5 to Thomann once. No problems. The only thing was that I had to pay return shipping, since the return was because I did not like it (turns out I`m not a fan of short scales). At another time UPS damaged a package from thomann, and thomann took care of it very quickly, no hassle.

One of the basses I ordered from them, a V7 G2 4 string fretless had an issue with the finish on the fingerboard delaminating which I saw minutes after receiving it. I contacted them and they said to check and see if any local luthiers could repair it. I did, had it repaired and Thomann credited me the cost of the repair. It was way less hassle for both of us to get it repaired locally.

Ooh someone needs to snag that lake placid blue. I sadly had to send the one I got in back as I mentioned above but the blue finish was stunning in person. Little metallic flakes and whatnot.

Also- $502 for that 5 string M model? If I'm reading the tag right that seems like a good deal. Pickups look like EMGs from afar lol. Black poles?

EBCFs are the lowest tension flats I've ever played. You may have to go to roundwounds to get lower tension.

Forgot to post this picture from the store as well, but they got a P5R in this shipment as well and it may have the darkest roasted neck I've ever seen. It almost blends in with the rosewood. Looks incredible in person.

I have to think they are putting a stain on that. I can't imagine raw wood browning that evenly... but then, I'm not a luthier, nor do I play one on TV.

The pic I posted above of my identical colored sire "roasted" neck shows that whatever they're doing to it is skin deep. The neck doesn't feel like any other neck I've played, roasted or raw. I'd love to hear from Sire what their definition of roasted is, and what they do to the necks.

You won't.

There are MANY definitions throughout the wood industry (not just guitars!) and manufacturers are NOT gonna disclose their processes.

That would be a good choice. I wouldn't go any lower than that on the string gauge. The roundwounds with the same string gauge may be loose enough for you. The inner core of roundwounds is thinner, so they need less tension to reach the low notes.

Threw some Nordstrand Power Blade pickups in my P5R recently. Massive improvement over the stock pickups.

What are the improvements? Any as far as the low end?

Low end for sure. More output and just a fatter tone in general.

I have those exact strings on my U5 and they work great. As far as I know the next EBCF gauge down would work just as well. I kinda like a beefier gauge on my short scales though as I keeps them from being too floppy.

those Power Blades are killer Modern P-bass pickups. Full throttle, no brakes.

Thanks I do not really do the modern stuff that often but I would like more of a low end thump and fatter on the bottom. Big Bottoms, big bottoms...my P5R ain't got 'em. And...before you ask the volume does go to 11.

I do not really utilize modern tone that much. i have an active bass for that. But I certainly would like more bottom. Was thinking of the Fender 63's but there are so many choices.
