SIT Bass Strings

I
Hello TB’ers

I enjoy the little things with bass, and that includes trying new strings. I had read about SIT strings for awhile now and finally tried them.

Holy wow. They’re unbelievable sounding, very think sounding, bright, responsive, and one thing I love, they feel great as well. I just tried Dunlop Super Brights and they were okay. SIT is a great smaller company tho!
I have been using SIT (45-105, rounds) for more years than I remember. They are consistent in their quality and sound and are priced reasonably... They have the tone that I need and last, but then, I tend to change my strings every other month or so depending on the amount of playing being done...

I bought a set of silencers once. The E and D strings were duds. I reached out to the company. No response for 2 months. When they finally responded, it took them another month to send me a redemption pack. I strung my bass up, and the E was a dud. I will never buy another set of strings from them.

I had the same experience with Silencers. They sounded like garbage out of the box, but for me it was all strings. I don't think they lasted 10 minutes, took them off threw them into the garbage. I'm with ya, I'll never buy SIT strings again.

I use S.I.T. Power Steel Conklin signature 7 stainless roundwound set for my sixers.
Fretted and fretless.
I use a seven string set because the C string is .025

Like the RB’s? Or Foundations ? I just changed from Sunlop SB’s and they were okay, but rough on my fingers.
I like both strings. The Foundations, (SS and NS), have a more even response. Nice and clear, with no frequency ranges standing out. Also a nice tight bottom end. The Brights are different. They have phosphor-bronze wrap over the core, then an SS or NS wrap over that. I can definitely hear the zingy, ABG-like tone of the p-b wrap.

I’ve never heard of them. I guess I need to get out more often. Thanks for the tip!

I really dig them, probably my new favorites. The last one's I tried were Dunlop Superbrights and those were like day old bright strings, and they tore up my fingers. These are way better!

Might try the brights next time just to see. Thanks for the input!

I've been using the Dunlop Super Bright Marcus Miller set on my Sandberg TM-5 for a few years, and I've liked them. Every so often I'll try another kind of string, just to avoid feeling stale. I've experimented with a good number, but up until now I've always preferred the Dunlops. Can't recall exactly what prompted me to try a set of the SIT Foundations SS in 45/65/85/105/125 gauge...

Wow! The B string speaks clearly all the way to the octave, every note has a nice growl without being clangy, the flexibility and tension feels pretty much the same as the Dunlop set, and they're still nice and clear after several weeks, multiple shows, and a good amount of practice time.

Think I've got a new fave!

As I understand it, the Dunlop MM set is slightly stiffer in feel than the regular Super Brights. Are you saying the SIT Foundations are closer to the MM set in overall feel?

Hmn...I started using the plain old Super Brights, and later switched to the MM set. Don't really remember whether the MM fell stiffer or not. Maybe...

But to your question, the Foundations feel about the same as the MM Dunlops. I'm thinking about (say) bending a G string note at the 12th fret, or just how much pressure clean fretting requires. Another tell, I figure, is that--although I expected I'd need to make at least some small adjustments--I didn't have to set up the bass any different after I switched to the Foundations. I checked the relief and the string height, and the measurements hadn't changed. I might have touched up the intonation on a couple strings, but I'll bet that's because it needed it anyway!

Thanks for your response.

My son plays an Ibanez SR1205E and has liked the regular Super Bright SS rounds. After reading some positive comments about the Foundations, I'm thinking maybe he should try them to see how they might compare with the Super Brights.

From mB to

but I used super brightson a 35 inch scale and tension helped

on my atelier z and a few others I use Marcus miller super brights. A bit more “sauce” in the low mid girth area but I also really like the rock right as compared to foundations are very similar to flex steels
