Sounds like you found the string. The thing for me is that I keep getting basses and I keep going for strings to match each bass. It's really an art and a science.

SIT Fusion Wound Stainless

Isn't that the truth.
For the Thunderbird, I think the Power Steel is excellent. I've turned people in the Thunderbird group here onto them and quite a few love them as well.
Still not convinced the Dunlops are the best for the BC Rich tonally, but I do love the feel. I actually have a set of the Pro Steels to try on that bass. Maybe they'll be a good match.
Here's my take on pro steels. So they either sound awesome or absolutely suck depending on what bass. Tried them on a Warwick Corvette with humbuckers. Thought they were totally yuck sounding. Blue steels sounds the best on that bass. It seems to sound big and fat but also shapes the growly tone just right on that bass. I threw the pro steels on a Warwick streamer with soapbars. They actually sound really nice. It had great bite and brought a great amount of growl to the tone. So you'll either love em or hate em depending on how they take to the bass you put them on.
I'd love some feedback on this for those who can compare, but the Fusion Wound might be a little tighter than the Power Steel. I think our gig this Thursday will tell me more. Nothing like playing live in front of people to give you the real truth.
Sorry, in feel. I'm always hesitant to use the word "tension" because people will tell you that tension and tightness of feel aren't the same thing.
Tighter = stiffer in feel. If the Power Steels end up being not as stiff as the Fusion Wound, that will be fine by me. What about the surface texture as in "smoothness/roughness"? Stainless steel vs. stainless steel... Can I expect them to be similar?
I believe the outer wrap and core wire are the same between the Power Steel and SS Fusion Wound. The surface feel is the same.
Good to know. I'm finding the FWS relatively smooth in texture for a stainless steel roundwound, and that's a big positive in my book.
I finally have a chance to test out the FWS in a live band setting this coming weekend. Should be interesting...
By the way, I also got a set of the Fusion Wound Nickel that I was going to try on the BB435. But based on our discussions so far, I think I'll try the Power Steels on this bass next as this particular bass seems to be bonding well with SS rounds.
I'll be picking up an Ibanez SR650E (4-string, active/passive reverse PJ) next week, so maybe try the FW Nickel on it. It has DR Black Beauties on it right now, which I will be ripping off as soon as I get it home.

I couldn't wait and installed a set of the FW nickels 45-105 on my 62 AVRI Jazz Bass. The Jazz was wearing a set of D'Addario Pro Steels 45-105 which I didn't think was the best match for this particular bass.
First impressions are that these FW's have more tension than the Pro Steels. I will probably have to make a slight truss rod adjustment at some point tomorrow but I want them to settle in first as an adjustment requires taking off the neck. Generally I find D'Addarios to have pretty high tension in the 45-105 gauge so I was somewhat surprised.
I wish I had a set of the Power Wounds to compare because I'm not exactly sure what the FW's are trying to accomplish? A G&L L2000 that I bought years ago came equipped with Power Wounds and I can't remember what they were like. Nothing really stands out.
The FW's feel relatively smooth. Not grabby and rough like the Pro Steels. Maybe slightly smoother than nickel XL's. Certainly not as aggressive in the highs and high mids as a brand new set of XL's/ They seem to have a big low end and even highs so far. Not overly flexible, which feels okay to my fingers. I'm usually a stainless steel guy so the lack of twang and gank is somewhat odd to my ear?
I don't think these are impressing me as much as the SIT Foundations but I'll keep them on and see how they fair.

That's the very question I'm asking myself right now. The Fusion Wound Stainless have been on my BB435 for the last month. I like them enough to stay with them for another month or two before trying the Power Steels. But I have a feeling the Power Steels will serve me just as well.
I'm looking forward to your findings @michael_t ! These aren't bad strings by any means but they seem a bit polite for my taste?
What bass/pickups are you using them on? Definitely not polite on my Gibson Thunderbird with TB+ pickups.
I found a similar situation with power steel but to be fair these were well used. I got a new set of them very cheap recently and I think I'll try them when I get back home and get some time on my basses.

I find them aggressive on the Thunderbird, with great clarity. Bright but not shrill. I did put a set on my old Carvin with Jazz style single coils and didn't find them anything special on there. And conversely, where I absolutely hated a set of D'Addario ProSteels on my Thunderbird, because of their scooped nature, I thought they worked really well on the single coils on the Carvin.
Great clarity sounds like how the old Hard Rocking Steels were. I read about your post saying these are what you switched to because they are the closest to those. If that's the case then they should sound awesome. I used the HRS on my Ibanez SR and those were great strings. Once I put the power steels on I'll see if I take back my original statement about not caring for them. I know how polarizing strings can be from my experience with pro steel. Hated the. On 1 bass but really liked them on a different one. These could be the same way.
