SIT Fusion Wound Stainless

Thanks. I thought SIT said that they'd improved the process and not just renamed. I guess I should ask them. I was hoping for real-world experience with them.

When I spoke with one of the employees at NAMM, they said it was a rename. Nothing different from the former “Rock Bright”

Thanks. That's helpful. I'm curious why they haven't followed that rebranding scheme and renamed the Power Steel to Power Wound Stainless or something.

it's just new packaging. i've used the RB set since the early 2000s.

i switch from one string brand to another often, but if i had a recording or 'serious' gig, i'd purposefully go to SIT strings. they're amazing.

Nice. Have you ever compared the RB to its "regular" counterpart? Power Wound or Power Steel.

i've used everything they've made over the years, aside from the flats i think they recently started making.

they all more or less do what they claim. IMO they're the best quality roundwound string on the market - stainless or nickel. i'm using the nickels now, they're awesome.

Yeah, I love them. I settled on the Power Steels after La Bella discontinued the Stainless Steel (FKA Hard Rockin' Steel) and haven't looked back. I love them. I've just been curious of there's any real world difference in tone or feel from the RB/Fusion. Have you noticed any?

I've been hesitant about trying any other SIT strings since trying their half wounds. I bought a set for my 6 string and the B and E were dead out of the package. They sent me another set and the B and E were dead again. After being on my bass for a day, I tried theme again to see if it was my imagination and not only were the B and E dead, so was the A string.

Your bass is choking strings to death in their sleep. A rare occurrence, but not unheard of.

Yeah, that's got to be it. It's particular and only chokes SIT Silencers.

I'm in the process of ordering two sets - Fusion Wound Stainless 40-120 and Fusion Wound Nickel 40-120 to try on my BB435. Don't hold your breath, though... The Power Wound Nickels that are on that bass are still very new, so it may be a while before I can try those two sets.

It's easy enough to swap strings on the same bass. Just saying....

That's something I don't like doing. It's a pain when I don't have a quick-release bridge, especially with the thru-body on the Yamaha. Once a set of strings go on it, I play them till they're done before moving on to the next set.

I believe I had the stainless on my atelier z and I normally used Marcus miller brights and pro steels

they were okay just not “raw” sounding for me

I did receive two sets of SIT Fusion Wound - one stainless and one nickel - at the beginning of April, but haven't had a chance to try them until now.

I just installed the stainless version on my Yamaha BB435. I'm usually more of a nickel guy, but every so often I get curious enough to try a set of SS rounds. The last set of SS rounds I tried on this particular bass was GHS Super Steels 40-58-80-102-126, and liked them a lot as they seemed to bring out some bite and aggression out of this bass. We'll see how these FWS would do...

Looking forward to your impressions. I now have a 6-pack of the SS 50-105. Putting on a set this weekend for our next show on the 18th. I'm very curious to hear what you think of them compared to the GHS, both in terms of tone and tension/tightness.

The soonest I can test them out in a live band setting will be the last weekend of this month. That should give me plenty of time to break these babies in real good. As far as SS rounds are concerned, I like their "well broken-in" tone better than their fresh zing. Will report back here next month...
