SIT Fusion Wound Stainless

Description
Fusion Wound Nickel Bass Strings offer the ultimate stability and tone. Using our exclusive “Fusion Winding” process, the under-wrap wire consisting of 92/8 phosphor bronze is fused to the high carbon steel core by using electricity and heat. Once cooled, the final winding is applied and the result is a bright, consistent, long lasting string with an amazing tone. These bass strings (formerly called RB/Rock Bright) are available in a variety of gauges and combinations including long and extra-long scale. The cover-wrap is available in Nickel (NRB) or stainless Steel (SRB).

Sounds like "Fusion Wound" is just a new name for the same thing (Rock Bright).

Thanks. I thought SIT said that they'd improved the process and not just renamed. I guess I should ask them. I was hoping for real-world experience with them.

My two Yamahas are now wearing SIT Power Wound Nickels, which have dethroned both GHS Bassics and DR Nickel Lo-Riders as my #1 go-to all-purpose NPS rounds. Thanks to you, this whole thread is making me very curious about the Fusion Wound. I guess I'll just have to try a set for myself. ;)

I look forward to your findings! The Fusion Wound I believe have the same core and outer wrap as the Power Wound and Power Steel. The difference is the outer wrap being fused to the inner core. How much that translates to real-world differences for me is TBD.

One unique factor in this process is the phosphor bronze that's fused to the core wire. As far as I understand it, the outer wrap is applied normally.

I've been hesitant about trying any other SIT strings since trying their half wounds. I bought a set for my 6 string and the B and E were dead out of the package. They sent me another set and the B and E were dead again. After being on my bass for a day, I tried theme again to see if it was my imagination and not only were the B and E dead, so was the A string.

Sorry to hear that. I've been using the Power Steels for years and have never had an issue.

Assuming you're talking about the "Silencers" (NPS semi-flat), I share the same sentiment. I tried a set in early 2023 and was very disappointed with them. It was Eddie Speedy in SIT Customer Care and the way he responded to my complaint about the Silencers that won me over. My experiences with the Power Wound Nickels have been very positive so far.

Well… on the SIT website they have strings packaged specifically for G&L basses. I just received the Power Wound 5 string set, 45-125, which I’ll install on my M-2500 Tribute in the near future. Very excited to try this set specifically made for G&L basses as the 5th string is contact core! Looking forward to hearing and feeling how they play.

Yes, it was the Silencers. I have no complaint with the customer service. They would have probably sent another set, but I just wanted to get some strings that worked on my bass. I may give their nickel rounds a try.
