the difference between a show and a cd is the atmosphere and that atmosphere is defined by the musicians. so it depends purely on the type of music you're playing, where you are, and who is listening.
I think it depends on whether or not the audience is sitting or standing. I use to play in a ska band, we made music to dance to. Nobody is going to dance to really fast up-beat music being played by a band who is sitting down, its just weird.
By the same token, if it is the type of music where the audience sits and listens, then why not sit down?
