Next to my 4003. The odd couple if there ever was one.

It was made in probably 2003. I got it for a song in an auction for a music store that went out of business. I got a peacock blue tiger maple one as well, but I'm not really into colors so I sold that one. I have no plans to modify anything, I'm finding I can get all of the sounds I want between onboard EQ and balance between pickups as well as varying right hand position and technique.

I'm thinking that having all of the notes on a 4 string up to the 12th fret available in one position may help my lame ability to sing and play bass. Time will tell.

Had to call peavey to order parts and they were friendly and helpful. Just outright nice folks.

I have never had a bass that could withstand an action so low. I also went from D'Addario pro XL steels to chromes to check out the sound difference and didn't need to touch the truss rod.

I had huge problems adjusting to the string spacing. After 40+ years of 4 string or 5 string with the same spacing, this thing was tough. Really hard skipping more than one string, missing by a string, you name it. I played only this bass for a month. Struggled the whole time. Thought about selling. Put it in the closet for a month. Took it out again and played through the Friedland/Hal Leonard book 2 end to end without a miss. I guess it finally sunk it. I'm now playing it about 1/2 of the time.

It's a great looking bass, I love natural finishes. It's also BIG, and since I am a 6'3" powerlifter, we match up pretty well. The Ric looks a little small but some other tall heavy guy plays a Ric so I think I'm ok when I need that bass. I got a Tobias growler 5 in the same auction and my family wouldn't let me keep it said it looked like a ukulele on me.

I bet your Cirrus growls like no other with that wood combination!

I love east preamps but they do color the tone so I'm not sure I wanna spend that kinda coin unless I know it's gonna work.

I def understand that. I guess with these things it's always hard to know before hand if the mods you want to try will work....especially with these types of basses. People just don't really mod them lol. I'm eventually going to try an East preamp just to see....if it doesn't work I'll throw it in my Brute which is my "Jazz" bass for when I need one.

One of my local shops had a E.W.S. Tri-Logic Bass preamp 2 pedal. This pedal is the answer to what I was looking for. Tons of low end without changing the character of the bass. It sounds like my Cirrus just ate a sumo wrestler for lunch when I engage the pedal. Same sound but bigger and ballsier. No need for any mods just a really great pedal. Here is some info for folks who are interested.

Sorry everyone for my absence from Talkbass. I've been a member here for many years and at one time, I lived and breathed TB.
I had a career change if you will. I'm now studying Mineralogy, Placer Geology and Gemology. I became a gemstone and gold prospector and fell into a new passion I never knew existed. It's taken much of my spare time but I still love playing bass.

Mark, I still have your old Cirrus. =)
