Six String Peavey Cirrus Thread

Current line-up...the Warwick "Dirty Blonde" just sold and the Peavey Cirrus 5 string fretless custom shop is coming next week in it's place! The BXP "Darkwood" is getting a pre-amp upgrade to the USA standard soon. I've already tried it and it's a HUGE improvement!

There are two Cirrus' that I still G.A.S. for daily. I want a Tiger Eye 6 string with the birdseye maple fretboard....OMG!

Also, the flame maple 6 string with maple fretboard that used to be a custom shop option. I have never seen one for sale. So, that makes it even harder to find than the Tiger Eye. Actually, I would prefer to find the flame maple/maple fretboard model even more!

BassicJohn is the only person I know with one. Maybe one day I can talk him out of it,lol. (Fat chance) :crying:

Not a sixer, but I just acquired this custom shop 5 string fretless. Quilted maple top/alder body, purpleheart stringers and Pau Ferro fingerboard. This is a very nice Cirrus. Definitely the best fretless I've ever played! I had to put a lamp up close so you can see just how beautiful the top is on the fretless. Amazing. -Luke

I just got one. My first 6 string. I like the 35'' scale. Makes for a cleaner B. I have very large hands so I felt comfortable right away. Still learning the instrument. I'll probably stick to my 4 string basses for traditional blues, R&B etc. but I'll use this at church and on jazz gigs and such. My only complaint is on close inspection the workmanship is a little sloppy here and there. That's purly cosmetic and doesn't effect the playability but for a bass in the $2,000 range I think they could show a little more attention to detail.

Wow, that's the first time I've heard that Bob. I've owned 3 USA Cirrus' and the craftmenship has always been 110%. How old is yours? I had a '99 Cirrus six string, and I have a 2003-2004 six string now as well as the custom shop fretless 5 string I just picked up. They were/are flawless. The retail on the older 6 strings like mine were around $2,900-$3,100. -Luke

I've noticed this as well with the sixer I bought, but here's the reason: Since they've put the production of the Cirrus on hold temporarily most of what they have in stock are B-stock instruments with slight manufacturing blems here and there and also what they call "artist seconds" when an artist uses 2 or 3 on the road before deciding on just one and returning the others that have some resulting road dings on them. Before this they rarely let a Cirrus out of the factory that wasn't virtually perfect.

And VS, that fretless is stunning :D

If you're looking for the sheer cosmetic perfection, the Cirri aren't quite perfect. My 5 string has a little overspray. My 4 string's neck has a bit of a chunk near the heel.

For the usual ~$1500-ish new price, you're not going to find anything better. Most of the important things are on par with higher priced basses. Those can be flawless, but at twice the price.
