Sorry for taking so long to respond Luke. I don't check in here very often. My Cirrus is fairly new. I got it a little over a year ago but I know it was there a while. The problems were small things like a little overspray and a not smoothly rounded cutouts. The neck is unfinished maple and I love the feel of bare maple. However I had to smooth out the wood more then the factory did as the wood felt a little rough. I took it down to 12,000 grit Micro Mesh and now it feels perfect. From a playing standpoint though, I love it. Great tone, good balance. Mine has the newer mid-range EQ and that's great but sometimes makes some very loud noise when turning it. I've tried cleaning the pot to no avail. What ever problems I've had are small and don't really bother me too much so overall I love this bass.

Well I typically don't bother with asking about setup information, but I be honest this one is a. Lot different then the wealth of information you can find on setting up jazz basses for optimal tone. I want to get every bit out of my 6 so just wondering what some of the typical lot stock parameters are like:
Relief: 0.01" at 7th?
Pickup heights front and back, depressed at 24th fret?
Saddle height and position, my B is fairly close to the bridge screw
Do just that basic stuff that you guys are very familiar with. I am also used to playing 34" scale, does typical setup change because of length (probably not) what are the starting points I guess?

I still have my Cirrus 6! That, my Mill 5, and my Fury are the only Peavey basses I have left.

Yeah see that's the point I want to reach. Just change strings (same type) oil it and go type of maintenance. I do spend a large amount of time tweaking. I'm learning to so not all bad I guess. Just like my car, not sure I trust others working on it haha.
Funny, I didn't even know this thread existed! My baby is a redwood/alder beauty w/pau ferro fretboard. I'll have to check my setup again, but I've been doing my own work for a few years now, it's a valuable skill to have as tech setups can cost like $45 and up! I travel too much for the bass to be a "set it and forget."
That said, if you can get your relief down that far (0.01" @ 7th fret) and the bass still be playable, I'll buy your bass from you lol! I know for a fact mine is set at about 0.15" (I measure at the 8th fret though...).
Stix - tristate04 over on LGM haha. Yeah I just always feel that it could be better I guess I am aiming at perfection. I am sitting close to .015 between 7 and 8. The truss rod is kind a hard to get a good leverage on but I might be able to get a little more.
Also read to get the pickups basically as close as can get without rubbing the strings when really digging in. Guess I am used to a measured jazz pickup height. Feels like I have a lot to learn about this beast.

I don't think you'll see too many Cirrus mods, as the bass is as close to "perfect" as you'll get lol.
Personally I put a Pope Flexcore preamp in mine, more of an experiment than a necessity. I kept it in because I was pleasantly surprised by how it kept the Cirrus sound while adding another dimension of control (i.e. lo-mid/hi-mid w/freq switches).
Are you thinking of doing mods or were you just wondering? There isn't much you can mod on the Peavey honestly, except for electronics and maybe hardware. I'd never change the pickups in mine, that's where that Cirrus sound comes from!
I'm a serial modder and was all set to do a complete electronics swap but after playing the bass a few days and running across some posts it seems that the preamp is the culprit. Love the tone but need more bottom so I'm thinking that a Aguilar OBP3 will be what I'm Looking for. I've read all the threads and posts but there was not anything recent. The flexcore is nice but I actually have narrowed it down to my 2 favorites and the John East or Aguilar OBP3. I'm leaning heavily toward the Aguilar.
It's funny you mention the JE pre because I've been wondering what that would sound like in a Cirrus with the original VFL pups. I modded my Cirrus for a similar reason initially, wanting some more boost in the low end. I've always considered the JE more as a Jazz bass type pre, because I've only ever heard of it being installed in those types of basses. Keep us updated if you install one in your Cirrus, I'd definitely like to know how it sounds!
My boy has an OBP-3 in his Cirrus and it definitely adds the low end....gobs and gobs of it actually lol. I think the Aggie takes away some of the Cirrus' original aggressiveness. His Cirrus' tone is smoother and not as hot in the mid range as mine is.
Like I said, changing the pickups to me is completely changing what the Cirrus is...a person would've been better off buying a different bass ya know? I remember a guy on TB swapped the elecs. in his Cirrus out for a complete Bartolini setup...the bass sounded terrible and he messed up the look with his routes of the pup cavities. Mighta just been him, but it was pretty terrible lol.

Your comments have my attention, I have a J Retro pedal I've been running the bass through and it sounds more like my Nordy VJ5. I like the OBP3 and I think the Cirrus is little more midrange heavy than I prefer. Maybe an xotic pedal or preamp might be the ticket. I remember the pedal being a bigger version of whatever is plugged into it.
Makes sense to me. Your Cirrus is beautiful! Is that Walnut, or Bubinga? Mine is Redwood over alder. I had an Indonesian walnut Cirrus BXP...that thing growled for days...almost like a Ken Smith IMO.
Do you not like the Millennium preamp at all? It's a very cheap mod...I think the pres are like $50 or something like that. I can't comment on the pedals as I haven't used one in a long time.

That's true about the Millennium preamp...I've only ever played one bass, a Millennium+ coincidentally, I thought it was great, but I didn't like how the bridge sat on top of the body...it made it difficult to get a decently low action on it.
