Six String Peavey Cirrus Thread

  • Thread starter Thread starter VS
  • Start date Start date
I have an Ampeg SVT 2 Pro running through 2 Aguilar 8 ohm cabs - a GS210 and a GS115.

When I can't use the Ampeg (like the place I played in October where the breaker kept tripping), I use an Ibanez Promethean amp and a Sansamp BDDI with the same 2 cabs (the same breaker that kept tripping with the SVT never had a problem with the Promethean - the sound guy told me that a lot of tube amps had trouble at that place, though). Or the Promethean with just the 210, if the whole rig is too much. Really, the Promethena/SABDDI setup sounds dang near as good as the SVT.

I also have a Peavey BAM210 combo and a Peavey Pro410 extension cab for that. But that rig is actually for sale right now. It's really a GREAT setup. But, I do like my SVT tubes and Aggie cabs better. Between my SVT/Aguilar rig and my Promethean 1x10 combo, I haven't touched the Peavey rig in 6 months. The only way I can see it ever getting use in the future is if I join a band and get too lazy to take the Promethean and GS210 back and forth for practice and want to just leave the BAM at a practice space.

For posterity because this is a six-specific thread I will report some info I previously posted in the regular cirrus thread. It's more likely to be needed at some future time bu a C6 owner than anywhere else.

If you are planning on replacing the stock tuners with Hipshot Ultralites you need to be aware that the spacing on the A & D tuners is VERY tight. Mine requires the removal of the single white plastic spacer under the small Allen screw that secures the tuner key gear post.

If you don't do this it will eat up the soft main post gear pretty quickly.

I've had this one since I was like 17. USA Cirrus, Redwood. I've used it in various Nashville studios, on one nationally released album, and on numerous tours/gigs. Over the last year though, I've become more of a jazz bass kind of guy and so I think I'm going to put her up for sale...she's just not getting the attention she deserves.

Get some new Cirrus strings. If yours sound bad, they must be REALLY worn out. I think I have Cirrus strings on 5 of my 6 Peavey basses, plus I put some on my MPG, I like them so much. I also like that they run $15 to $20/set (4 - 6 strings) and they seem to last dang near forever.

I have them on my fretless 5, but I've never been too keen or impressed with them anywhere else.

I'm in!

With all of the fantastic basses that I am blessed to own, my Cirrus doesn't get played as much as it used to, but I still take it to church at least a couple of times a month. Mine is the series originally known as Cirrus Custom, then Tiger eye, and then Quilt Top, before they started the custom shop ordering. Which means that my quilt maple/alder has a birdseye maple neck, ebony fingerboard, Millennium preamp with mid sweep, Hipshot Ultra Lights, Hipshot Style A bridge, quilt headstock overlay, and walnut knobs & control cavity cover. Oh, and I play it mostly through a BAM210 combo, at church!:bassist:

Pics, of course!:D

I was wondering when you would be dropping in Jeff! The ONLY Cirrus 6 I still G.A.S. for daily, your tiger eye! -Luke

I still haven't run across one I like more! The only thing I don't like is that the headstock overlay is very fragile. You can see in one of the pics above where it is chipped in two places.
