Yep, the competitors come from all over the world every year for that event. It's about thirty miles east of me. I've only been to the practice/qualifier days, I've never seen the actual races with multiple people running togther.
Yup, avid longboarder? here. I've been going out every single night for a bit as part of a self-isolation mental health program.
My main boards are my two Pantheon Wanderlusts that I picked up some years ago, just as the really big wheels were coming into syle - I have 80mm Kegels on one and slightly smaller cushier Big Zigs on the other.
As a Father's day gift, my wife suggested I pick up another board - so I put in a pre-order for a Pantheon Pranayama which will sport 85mm wheels...
And all on TKP trucks. I'm pretty pumped to try it out.

Yep, the Maryhill Loops. I used to gig at the big winery a couple of miles from there quite a bit.

I've never longboarded myself. Just ate lots of pavement skateboarding.

Yeah, not sure why it's never worked out, given that I've lived in this area for a few decades No excuse really, but there's always so much going on here at that time of the year. And then the whole event structure changed up a lot a few years ago: Maryhill Festival of Speed calls it quits

Maybe yes, maybe no - just two different disciplines of riding a plank with wheels if you asked me.

Say what you will about how un-hip they are (I'm not in the business of being hip anymore), but they are undeniably functional, especially when it comes to efficiency - which is why they're so favored in the LDP community.I get it though, just like with basses, personal aesthetic preferences matter. While hate is a strong word, I too never could get behind the huge pintail boats, but then again, my formative years were spent bombing the hills of Pittsburgh on popsicle boards, and not surfing.
I made my skateboard from a pine board with the stripped down front sections of my roller skates I screwed to it.
When my sons got interested in skateboarding about 30 years later I bought them each skateboards I could have never dreamed of as a kid. The technology certainly has come a long way.

The BL in one of my previous bands decided to take up skateboarding in his mid-30s. When he did, he fully committed to it and was skating parks, ramps, etc. As expected, he injured himself constantly. I was always worried about him ending up in the hospital on or around a gig day. We did a lot of wedding/corporate events, so cancelling due to skateboarding injury would have been bad.

I sorta kinda...have a pet peeve against the "hippies" that have huge longboards that cruise in the streets slower than someone who walks knocking the back truck going up curbs till they eat pavement and break the truck.

Nope I don't skate anymore much less mongo. Too old and had a minor stroke that messed up my balance some. My screen name is from Blazing Saddles...don't ask.
Do any of you guys skateboard? I've skated since I was 10. I'm too old and broken to do tricks anymore ( my right knee is busted up bad and had surgery on it 4 years ago) but I still go and bomb some medium size hills.
I always get "angry mom" looks from my wife when she sees me going as fast as cars.
I'm wayyyy more careful since I have kids now.
I'm just so happy I can go cruising FINALLY!!!

Back in the 60s I had one. It was a flat 3/4” maple board with the edges rounded off. The wheels were the old hard roller skate type, and the trucks had almost no give to them.
I grew up in Pittsburgh where there are no level straight streets. A bunch of my school mates ended up with all sorts of broken arms, fingers, road rash from top to bottom, and concussions because we didn’t have helmets (or brains for that matter apparently). My dad eventually commandeered it as a dolly to move heavy things on it.
