Ski Jump on SR, Repair Advice

What you are describing is basically the definition of a 12th fret kink (ski jump) condition. The neck needs to have the frets leveled overall, taking down the high ones out on the heel. If it's severe, the frets will need to be pulled, and the fingerboard resurfaced. But this doesn't sound that severe, from the action dimensions you give.

A neck shim won't do anything to help this condition.

Thanks Bruce and others,

So I get an e-mail today from the big rep of Ibanez, and he sends me an RMA, prepaid.

I sent him a few questions back, like: "Are you going to try and fix this with solely truss and bridge adjustments?"

Still waiting for a reply..

Hey... If they can fix this under warranty for no charge, I'm willing to give them a chance..

If it comes back basically the same...I'll fix it somehow...
Might take me using heat and clamps, like I've seen posted here...we'll see...

Anyway, good news on the warranty front.
The rep that I spoke with, responded that they will be doing more than just truss and bridge tweaking (not gonna elaborate further, stuff's probably confidential)
Real nice guy, more so than other 'modern day' reps I have spoken to... refreshing really...

I responded back stating that I only need two parameters adhered to, and those are:
As stated under the "ACTION" heading of the Ibanez maintenance guide here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
1. The action for a bass at the 14th fret should be 2.5mm on the bass side, and 2mm on the treble side.
2. There should be no fret buzz/note-choking using normal/moderate string striking.

That's it.
I also stated that all of my other SR series basses achieve both of these parameters, which they do.
So, pretty simple, this neck should perform/conform with their own guidelines.

Ships out tomorrow, I'll report back, hoping for the best of outcomes...*crosses fingers*..:thumbsup:

Exactly right, pretty much the condition with this neck...although very exaggerated..
They should be able to fix this with simple fret work..we'll see :hyper:
