Skyline AJ 55 or 55-02...

Trying to decide between the two. I play mostly funk, Gospel and R&B with a few rock gigs thrown in for good measure. I'm leaning towards the AJ 55 in red with a maple board - Bass Central has one with maple. If I get it, I'll probably put an Audere pre in it, which will make cost a wash. Any reason to go with the 55-02 instead?

55-02 will be versatile but a jazz can fit with just about anything. I just put an Audere in my DJ5 and it sounds great, and the install is simple - even moreso in the AJ I would think since you don't have to drill a control plate. That's the first maple-boarded AJ I've seen and it looks hot!

Modern jazz tone from a 55-02, I think you can get close enough with a flick of the coil tap switch. It certainly won't have that true single coil jazz bite. Tough call. I was considering the 55-02, an AJ5 and the DJ5. Ultimately went with the DJ because of the body size and I wanted a straight up jazz back in the stable.

If I had to pick for your situation though, I think I'd go 55-02.
